Mod Rear Rim Review

Seeing as their has been quite a few topics on which is the best rim for mods i've written this review about most of the mod rims you can buy.

1) rim: echo 06

This rim isn't one of the strongest rims on the trials market but it looks good which is a very good advantage but if your looking for strength I wouldn't go for it, plus another disadvantage is that it only comes in 32 hole which is a bit annoying. however the colour choice is good. also holds grinds good too.

2) once ronnie

This rim is a weird one some people say its great and some say its rubbish. personally i think the reason why some say its not very strong is because of the massive sidewalls this is why after a few grinds you get loads of dents and cracks around the edge. Plus its not one of the best looking rims you can buy as you can only get it in one colour.

3) tryall

The tryall rim is probably the most popular rim and the best, this is because you can get it in almost any colour and you can get it in either 32 or 36 hole which is good as different hubs have different amounts of spokes. plus it holds grinds really well. and the strength is unbeatable well unless your a really rough rider.

4) Alex dx32

This rim is the strongest rim out of them all but the look of it is the biggest let down as you can only get it in black without being drilled . But you can get in different sizes e.g 32 36 which is a good advantage.

so overall after using all of these rims i recommend the tryall simply because its got all you want out of a rim, strength, colour and size. (Y)

im sorry but i disagree alex dx32's are the worst mod rims ever, they dent incrediably easy. also i believe and have been told try all rims dont hold grinds very well and aren't very strong. sorry to be nit picking, but the review other wise was good and im sure has helped many people.

So you would say they are a massive improvement to the last ones ?

Dan.

Yes, waaaaaay better, I've ground mine about 12 times already ffs, don't ask why but it's a f**kin beast, holds grinds amazingly, and I puncture but dont get dents or anythin'.

Amazing rims, well worth it, but get normal colours, 'cause I'm bored of my fluro already.

sorry but i can't agree with you on the alex dx32 due to my own experience of them. i found that they dented incrediably easy, to the point when i was haveing to run high tyre pressure and was still gettin dents. although i must admit i am a heavy ride but still was not impressed by the rim at all.

firstly i have own to of those rim a alex dx32 and a onza ronnie rim, the dirst rim i ran out of the two was a alex dx32 and what a rim it was, lasted about 7 decnt grinds, but i started getting better and doing drop gaps etc and started to dent it, but when i pulled the dints back out about 4 of them craked :( so this resulted in me buying a onza ronnie rim, the rim was fine until i hit the third grind, it may just be my luck but i was doing a gap a landed on the joint of the rim and folded it a 90`degree angle into my tyre, went to bent it out when arrived at home and it snapped of so no i have a hole on my rim, thankfully in gose no lower than the metal bit inside the tyre here is a pic but it bit rubbish because it off my webcam, digital camera has no battery, but you can still tell my ronnie rim has been abused......here

but on a personal note both of the rims where amazing because there vitually the same and there strong, but next time iam not even going to grind my rim, smooth rim with zoo pads all the way..

Dont try and think your neil tunnicliffe or benito ross and decide to try and run 8 psi, when you know full well you are a heavy rider, then your rim wouldnt be in such a mess, to be fair, i go big and my dx32 is running super strong for me, perhaps you have a shit wheelbuild, i dont know but most people think the dx32 is the best mod rim out the like me.

if you can find where in my posts it says i run with 8 psi then hats off to you. because i run with my tyres hard to stop puntures. and who says i would wont to be like neil tunnicliff or benito ross for all you no i may have a really streety style and wont to be like rowan johns, or for all you no i am better than neil tunnicliff ect. I was only giving my opinion which is what the forum is all about. don't go and try and rip someone to shreads just because they disagree with you.

i am sorry all to go off topic

How anyone can dent rims, try and bend them back, crack the sidewalls, and still say they are amazing is beyond me.

when you get to you 5th-6th grind you understand, lol the flatspots and dents get that big when they fold they crack also, and when you bend them back ot the jst crack even more :- unless you run 40 psi of course

Kris Holm.

I've found it to be a very good rim. Bought from Unicycle.com (Whatever the German one is) And it came extremely quick. Even got a little bag of sweets. :P

I had an Onza Ronnie before I got my kris Holm, and that dented really easily, and it cracked on a dent. - kTyre kept falling off, got annoying.

The Kris Holm is slightly wider than the Ronnie, which is fine for my Zona Zip. 36h too. Unlike the Echo rims.

I built it onto my Profile and all is good. (Super right spokes ***)

It's had a fair few hard knocks on edges etc, and no dent as of yet.
