Recommended Posts

ok, i kinda killed my freewheel so i needed to get my crank off to replace it. it bought this tool to do it:

i've just tried to get my cranks of using it and it seems to just wear away the inside of the crank and not pull it out?is it the right tool?

btw i have these cranks:

put a five penyy coin in so tthat it covers up the whole on the bb. screw the big bit of the tool all the way into the crank and tighten it down with a spanner. then use an 8mm allen key and tighten the little bit in. it will just push the crank off.,

a big mistake my old pal, tensile have isis threads witch means you will have a isis bottom bracket, that tool is for a sqaure taperd crank and bottom braket witch means it wont work, unless <_< u put a 5p inside your crank then it will work because when you tighten it, it will push agaimnst the 5p and force the crank to start loosning and come off.....it worked for me (Y) or if you dont want to bodge it just buy the propa tool here

the 5p trick didnt work for me :( i bent about £1 worth of 5p trying to do it, i also tried pennies but with no luck, and also tried 2 5p together. in the end i went to my lbs and they had a crank tool that had a little end cap thing that went over the square tapered tool and it works first time every time. best tool ive ever bought. well tried the 5p thing anyway but now the 5p is stuck in my cranks and also the tool doesnt even screw in when the 5 p is in there. :(

screw driver on the 5p and smash it out with a hammer, or cant you even get the crank to to do that?

Your Tensile cranks are ISIS, which means you need an ISIS Crank puller: http://www.tartybikes.co.uk/product.php?id=559

Your best bet would be buy the correct tool, you'll have no problems then :)

I managed to get my old ACS off by hitting one of the four little raised lips anti-clockwise, with a screwdriver and a hammer! (while the crank arm was in a vice) Almost defiantly the wrong way to do it but it worked for me!

Cheers (Y)

EDIT: I've got a freewheel tool i can send you for nothing if you want it? (halfods bikehut 'Profelssional 4 peg Freewheel tool')

What I had to do to get my ACS off was put the crank arm in a vice.

Put the vice next to a curb and my dad rolled his car on top of it (because my vice isn’t attached to a work bench)

Then put the freewheel to on the freewheel and attach an adjustable spanner.

Then put the handle of the spanner inside a metal tube to get more leverage

Then twist the freewheel off.

Easy as that. :D:-

I got to 3 5p's. (That's a freddo!) and bent them all. Could have tried 4 but there wasn't enought room left.

Proper tools make life soooo much easier.

finaly managed to get it off! but now i cant get the bloody freewheel off. any tips on how to get it off, i dont have a clamp whick makes it harder.

Put the crank in a vice length way.

Bolt the tool down onto the freewheel, you may need to bodge something out of a big bolt and washers to do this.

Then you need a big big spanner, longer the better.

Then try getting it off with that. If that dosn't work, hit the spanner with a mallet. Really hard.

Using your dads car to hold the vice - genious. (Y)
