Rob Thomson
Righty, basically for A-Level DT this year, my practical will be based on the problem that some other teacher finds it hard to transport his amp from his house to his car, and to solve it, I'll be making a wee carrier thingey...Thing is i can't seem to find any existing products to look at so i can get some ideas...Does ANYONE know anything as to if there are any even in production?? Or if you've made one before then pics would be glorious...Cheers,

Rob Thomson
They're called skate boards Yeah, I'll get tonnes of marks for just using a skateboard won't I???Serious now... Si-man
How how is it???Maybe something like this... Obviously do you own design etc. Could also incorprate some sort of pneumatic lift in it so it lifts up to the height of the boot of his car.Just an idea
blinky
dont they make sack trucks with an axle, and three wheels on the same axle or something. i think its so you can pull it up and down steps really easy. thatd be quite good to do.EDIT: found a pic Edited August 31, 2006 by blinky
Mark W
That bottom thing is possibly the only one I'd consider using just 'cos you WILL have to go up and down stems, basically. I've got a big ol' 4x10 "deep" cab and that's a f**ker to deal with so eventually I just got buff and carried it everywhere. However, sack truck sorta things which could deal with steps would be cool, just make some sort of restraining leash on them or something to stop the amp falling off
Si-man
Its only going from his house to his car...Depends where he keeps it.Upstairs or downstairs??
Mark W
What are the chances that his front door frame is perfectly flush with his hall floor, and that the path leading to his front door/his drive/whatever is perfectly flush with the hall too? It's pretty unlikely, so it will have to go over a step, basically? Not to mention you'll get mad high points for D&T if you manage to make one of those 3-wheel-on-one-axle majiggers. Mark W
D&T A-Level isn't bad re: coursework. Just get some pretty CAD work on the go and they'll probably suck you off instantly and give you an A.Try it, it worked for me But seriously - make it so it has like a ratcheting strap on it to hold the amp in place. You're trying to balance a big f**k-off amp on a plate like a foot long - it's not gonna happen. Having one or two straps (if it's one have it half-way up, if 2 have them up 1/3 and then 2/3s of the way up I guess) to just hold the amp in place would be super, super useful in my experience. Some sort of anti-tip arms at the back might be useful too, just so you don't have to take the full weight of the amp? Mark W
All ideas (minus skateboard) have been noted Don't discount it fully. In your initial ideas, just do some doodle sorta sketches of an amp on a skateboard, then sorta develop it into how you could use the tail on the edges of steps to lower it down a bit at a time, if you get me. They dig that whole "developing concepts" shit, even if they go to nowhere, it just sorta shows you were open to ideas and didn't just choose the first one and just stick with that. A skateboard could be adapted to do it, or a pair of boards or whatever. Their shape's pretty convenient 'n' stuff...
Dan Clark
Just design a set of weights and tell him to lift and stop being a pussy
