bikerboy16
A lot of people are always round there magura mount so i don't see why they do not make the mount out of a strong metal so they don't round so easy or so the bolts round before the mounts then all you have to pay is 20p for some new bolts instead of about £25 to get the frame helicoiled.what are your ideas on this subject? adamtrials
It is a relativley strong metal, and with proper care and maintainence they will not round. It is due to the mechanics of a helicoil that they are stronger, not because they are a different metal asfar as I am aware. And a decent helicoiler (i.e. a non rip-off merchant) should charge way less than £25,more like £10 at the most. Mark W
A helicoil is generally a big ol' steel insert that threads into deeper threads (which you make) into the frame, so you then have a nice, strong, steel set of threads to screw your bolts into?Either way, a bit of grease on the bolts and some care when you put them in should sort you out, but it'd be way better if companies just helicoiled frames as standard. With all the other gimmicky shit they're coming out with, you'd have thought they'd have gone for something functional?
Willsey
yea just maintain your bike often and they should be fine also i would recommend not using cheap jack tools that you only round the heads off of the bolts.. also make sure you dont cross-thread the bolts... it sounds stupid but alot of peope do make the mistake.. just put the bolt in and tighten up with your fingers first.. then use a spanner or whatever.. just so you know you cant cross it.. thats always a bitch

People only f**k up their threads because they don't know a thing about maintenance, not to blow my own trumpet, but I actually find it difficult to cross thread things, even when trying. all it takes is for you to turn the bolt as if to loosen it, wait for a click(the threads make this noise), and then tighten 'er up nice n sweetly......I can see why manufacturer's dont do it, in that it's hassle, when they'd have to tap, and then put a helicoil in, time is money, and money is all the big companies care about really. Mark W
They're tapping them anyway, so just firing a helicoil in there wouldn't be hard. In the BMX world helicoils are appearing in stems, seat clamps, and so on, so I don't really get why they can't just do it with trials frames. The dropped stays were to try and get the integrated tensioners in there (amongst other things), which work really well. Now they've got a way of getting them in without having to drop the stays, they aren't doing the dropped stays. All good
Guest
ahh jus shittin' you mark.It wouldn't be hard, but it takes time, in reality, how many people actually f**k their threads up? Of course there isn't going to be any straight answer, but out of the people that buy trials frame's, i'd say it's a very small proportion......BMX companies are differant... super
Not having a go at anybody but if you can't set up your brakes withoutf***ing up the thred you probably shouldn't be doing any maintance toyour bike at all!
weewillywinky
ive rounded all 8 of my magura bolts before the mounts lol oops maybe i should use better allen keys. if you were a company and could get 25 quid every time a custemer f**cked up there mounts instead of 20p, what would you do. ride v's.have fun
Broomer
Had my rear brake mounts helicoiled last week at my local engineering firm, and it was £2.00 each, not quite £25.00.
