Gandalf the Yellow
yea im going to try get 1 of them SKF's. looks rather simple yet reliable... i heard they make the best bearings on the market... i just purchased an echo, well fair enough it doesn't come with instructions, but i think its quite a rubbish piece of bb for £64 inc tool.(the tool doesn't actually fit onto the cups properly) (and i have no idea how much i have to tighten the crank bolts before i crush them bearings..) its pretty crap for £64steve
Andy Kay
Definately so not get this BB I bought 1 for £30 and 2 hours after installing it i did a drop just over 1 foot and the axle snapped clean in half. Luckily I got it exchanged and got a giga pipe which is sound. Edited September 3, 2006 by Denholme Trials Crew

AdamR28
Been thinking of getting one of these, seem cheap and i've been told there good of a few peopleThe problem with those (and the Viz BB) is that the sleeves on the axles are too short - this means it kills the splines on your cranks, and it doesn't preload the bearings correctly.i just purchased an echo, well fair enough it doesn't come with instructions, but i think its quite a rubbish piece of bb for £64 inc tool.(the tool doesn't actually fit onto the cups properly) (and i have no idea how much i have to tighten the crank bolts before i crush them bearings..) Instructions aren't really needed for such a BB, if you need help then your retailer will be able to help you out.Similarly, if the tool doesn't fit properly then get it touch with your retailer and they should help you out.You can't crush the bearings due to the way the BB is designed. In fact, I can't think of a BB on the market that uses the crank arms to preload the bearings - that would be such a bad idea!Adam
mat hudson
i always thought it was just 3 peice bmx cranks with pinch bolts that preloaded the bb. useful for no footed manouvers i guess, when you dont want your cranks spinning. AdamR28
They're not meant to side load the bearings though, that kills them.Difference betwen side load and pre-load:Pre-load stops the BB from spinning round, adds a bit of friction.Side load puts sideways loads on the bearings, the direction they don't like forces, and breaks them
mat hudson
so how does the preload work? i thought the small amount of sideways load was the preload . i dot get how that works then.

Mark W
I'm thinking it's pretty likely you'll hit the cranks on either the stays or the pistons...
