max-t
hi everyone i seem to have trouble with snapping chains.i have snapped a kmc 3 times now in the space of a month.i lubricated them and made sure all the links were tight enough but they still snapped very promptly. does anyone run a chain other than sram or kmc that is of a high standard and doesnt snap really easy. i am starting to worry for my well being! thanks, max... monty boi
Get a gusset chain the good points to the chain are , its strong , and looks smart, the downsides are they weigh more than normal chains, and it depends on what you ride 20" or 26"?Adam. Greetings
got one word khe yes somthing like 11 times stronger than kmc 15 or 14 pounds at tarty you will never brake it ever ever ever Actually, the KHE is about 15% stronger (that's 0.15 times, not 11 times). I can't see him using this chain on a stock bike though it is worth the money. I've had it for 14 months on my mod and it hasn't snapped yet. jon0
The problem may not be within the chain, have you looked at replacing the rest of your drive train? (Chain ring and rear sprocket) As if one of them is wearing into your chain it could weaken it. When you change one component of your drive train you should try to change them all really, as they wear into each other and settle down together. If you replace one, it will be “out of sync” with the rest of the remaining components. If all else fails learn how to preload before you put power through the cranks. spode@thinkbikes
Pretty much got the bases covered here. BUT, if it's nothing technically wrong with your set up, maybe try and get larger cogs with more teeth on, while maintaining the same gears. (i.e if you're on 16/16 go to 20/20). 26inch
How is that going to help, apart from requiring more links so more chance of weak spots and more stretching
spode@thinkbikes
How is that going to help, apart from requiring more links so more chance of weak spots and more stretchingMore links have contact with teeth, so it spreads the load better. It's one of the only downsides I've heard to running smaller cogs. It will also take longer to wear out.
