Fixed Pants™
on the bike i got yesterday, 2nd hand, the chain ring has bent from where it wasnt secure, its badly bent, if you need pics i most proably can get them, but does this mean i have to buy a new chain ring? i can probably straighten it out abit, but the real problem is i can't get the crank arm off so i can get to it and straighten it out, any help on how to get the crank arm off would be much appreciated as it might save the day
bob87
Yeah get some pics so we can tell how bad it is, if it ain't to bad you can probably bend it back enough so that its rideable.

You need a crank puller tool to get the crank arm off, your LBS will have one if you don't. Stick the chain ring in a vice and try straighten it out and see how long it lasts. max-t
mate if its bent lots theres no point in bending it back..is it steel or aliminium chainring? bend aliminium back and it will most probably snap...either way whatever it is it will be weakend when you bend it back.id say its advisable to get a new chain ring rarther than bending that back when you can get a new one that is strong , as strait as it can be and isnt going to put your safety at risk.as for the crank...why cant you remove it?are the threads in the crank stripped so you cant use a cant extracter?if that is the case then your best option would be to hit it off from the inside with a block of wood and a hammer.if you dont have a crank extracter and want to get the crank off its probably a good idea to purchase one.they dont cost much and you would be able to get one from your local bikeshop or something like halfords.max... Fixed Pants™
As its only my second day riding trials i can't do to much so its not gonna have too much pressure on it, thin gis, it looks really thin, doesn't look like it should/ will stand up to the pressures of trials I'm just about to go to Halfords so they can try to get it off.Not sure why i can't get the crank arm off, it just doesn't seem to be moving when i try to lever it off. max-t
mate dont let them rip you off.if they get it off dont let them charge you like a tenner.they will put a tool it it and do it up..it will come off in seconds...if they ask 4 a tenner tell them no cos thats called ripping you off like halfords always try to do..buy a crank puller there too so you dont have to take the bike there every time you need to get your cranks offyou wont be able to remove the crank by hand because its on a taper.thats what holds it on tight.look at the shape of the bit that the crank is on when it comes off max...
