MadChikken
linkages on specialized bikes being shite. Its damn true, the bushes on speccy full sus bikes are shocking. Number of problems we had in evans when I worked there was silly, though not as bad as the snap-happy cannondale's! We had a demo bike of the Speccy Demo-8 and the bushes in the entire rear end (god knows how many, they have a stupidly complicated rear linkage) lasted about 5 weeks of abuse then you could feel the rear end moving around sideways as you rode along! Rockhopper is an awesome choice mate, no suprise they've been pretty much the best selling bike every year for about 20 years!Cant get much better vfm, shame they changed the lovely old round tubed frames for those stupid hydroformed ones, but nobody's perfect! She'll do you well Im sure M@
granty
you could get the identiti 666x comp for £550 or the 24seven dark angel slacker for £600 or the flow drift for £600 all amazing bikes

Howard Hughes
a little question:the kit tyres on my xc bike lack grip - when its dry and dusty they are usable, so it hasn't been a huge problem up until now - after we have had some rain and its muddy... i went out today, was sliding all over the place, and had to walk up steep hills because i had no traction at all, was just wheel spinning without going forwards.so can anyone recommend me some good winter tyres? (no more than £20 - £25 each) that will be nice and grippy and last until early spring?(sorry to steal your thread a bit, but i figured it wasn't worth starting a new one)
MadChikken
Are they tubeless or standard tyres? As long as they arent too wide (i.e 1.8/1.9 ) so dont get bogged down in mud, and have a good mix of deep tread on the edges but smooth enough on the inside to keep rolling resistance down, you should be laughing. One of most popular when I worked in shop was a Panaracer Fire XC Pro in 1.8. Other than that, something like a Hutchinson Scorpion is pretty popular but fairly expensive, or a couple of the Conti tyres like the Vapour. Most come in a couple of different widths if u hunt around...Hope helps a bit M@
RicH_87
where did you order from JT?got it yet?
JT!
Went for the Specialized Rockhopper Disc in the end.I originally ordered it from leisurelakesbikes. But most online shops these days aren’t capable of updating their sites and they didn't have any in stock. And the means in which they told me they hadn’t got any in stock was…HI THERE JONATHAN UNFORTUNALY WE ARE OUT OF STOCK ON THIS ITEM AND AT THIS TIME WE DONT KNOW IF SPEC HAVE ANY IN STOCK AS WE DONT HAVE A UP TO DATE STOCK LIST AND WITH SPEC BRINGING 2007 BIKES OUT ALREADY WE ARE IN THE DARK SO PLEASE CALL US ON TUESDAY SO WE CAN PHONE SUPPLIERS TO SEE WHEN WE CAN GET ONE SORRY FOR THE DELAY THANK YOU LEISURE LAKESFull stops, capital letters, cap locks? Took me a while to work out what ‘Spec’ meant too.So I shopped around a bit and found a shop (www.cyclestore.com) that said it only had 19" blue. Which was the sise and colour I wanted. They only have 1 left. Jammy or what?Came quickly, free postage so I saved £10.It's really really good. The most important thing to me was the forks and the brakes. The juicy 5's are great, and still bedding in. The forks are sooo much nicer than my shit ones I got with my £300 Trek. The lockout is great for when you on the roads, and the rebound adjustment is fun the play with. Either set it to a bouncy spring, or make it so that it takes about 10 seconds for the forks to come back up.The preload adjustment is pathetic, doesn’t really make any difference, the dial you turn destroys your fingers and just gets more impossible to turn. I've just left it on it's lowest setting, I’m quite light anyway. And it has lockout for climbs so I’m content with that.Pedals are shite, but they will be replaced. But the rest of the bikes spot on.
