Tomm
The new ones will be better though, they always are, right? In fact, now is about the best time to buy a new bike as all the shops are getting rid of their old stock ready for the 07 stuff.
JT!
What is it?An old Trek 4100, the gears still kinda work. You wont go far wrong witht he rockhopper. We have sold a shed load of them and have had none back with any problems as such. Just the usual neglect cases. You would need to be quick to get an 06 one as the 07 stuff is out very soon (some stuff is out already) I am going to edinburgh on tuesday to get the low down on the new spech range so the rest of the range isn't far off.Where I work (NI's only spech dealer) have sold out of all 06 rockhoppers about 3 weeks ago and no more can be got from spech. They seem to have them in all the sises, would have thought they'd have alot of stock left over for a while anyway. Got to wait a few weeks though for money.

Brisa
Most of the big mail order beasts should have some left just saying that no more can be got from specialized so when they have gone thats it.

JT!
^ V-brakes. www.trekbikes.comI've had a look on there, and the only one that fell in the right price range was the 6500 disc (07) and the 'rockhopper disc' seems to be better. Shaun H
You can always find somewhere cheaper than Leisurelakes believe me. Unless you've got one of their stores nearby to you like here in Cheltenham then I'd say it's worth looking around for somewhere cheaper. mat hudson
i think the giant trance4 http://www.paulscycles.co.uk/products.php?plid=m1b4s1p400 is an amazing deal.only bad thing on there are the tyres and since when have i been wrong about things, jt
Howard Hughes
I had a similar price range when I was looking to buy an xc bike. I went for a scott scale 60 - cost £580, I really couldn't fault it. If you want to spend more you could look at the scale 50 (next model up), but for the price I dont think you could do better. Its light(ish - for the money), hasn't broken yet (not even had a puncture) and handles really really well.

mat hudson
lol, you faggot upgradings as easy as 100quid plus you get a really good suspension system, a brilliant fork, great finishing kit and beefeh wheels. haydon_peter
Maybe ask in your lbs about finance? The only reason I could afford to spend £1000 on an XC bike is because my lbs have a 0% interest finance option available through Black Horse Finance £500 deposit, then £82.50 a month for 6 months, job done, I now own my Marin Also remember that whatever bike you get in that price range you will probably end up wanting to make a few upgrades. I changed the pedals to V12's before the bike even left the shop, I then made gradual upgrades. I changed the bars to EA70's, replaced the big ring with a Blackspire Lexan 34t Bash, upgraded the hubs to Hope Bulb rear and Hope XC front. Oh and the grips you get on pre built bikes are usually shite...
mat hudson
i have tried a few from the bike shop in swindon... if your lucky you might be able to find the 06 trek 8500... they retail at about £2000 i think but cause its the older model now you can find them for £1500... thats full xtr and a forking nice frame, fox forks. they have one in totalbike (swindon) which you can get for £1300 cause its ex demo, still pretty mint though. for full sus i would deffo look at the specialized xc pro... thats full sus with a fox shock with the 3 different settings, locked, pro pedal and soft. i hammered that for a week and fell in love... cant afford to buy it though:( which is a GAY. specialized are all you want to look at though for full sus IMO! thier warranty is awesome and the xc frames can take shit loads. Tim flooks (tf tuned) told our bike shop that they are really badly made, backends are really badly aligned and bushings have to be replaced in the linkages and shocks every 3 months. they ride ok though i guess. Probably get more out of the low weight and general ridgid benifits.Maybe ask in your lbs about finance?Trying not to sound like a bighead, but i've got enough money for a £3,000 bike. But i don't want to spend that much . It's not that i'm short on cash, just weighing up how much i'm going to use it, and what i'm using it for. Nah thats cool, I had enough money saved to buy my Marin outright straight away, it just made things easier paying it off slowly! The option was given to me by the lbs, I decided it would be rude not to take advantage of it

Anyone know anywhere where i could buy one of these cheaper than £650? You will be rewarded.

dave33
if you really want to get a brand new bike have a look at merlins range as they are the best for the price by far you cant get a nice bike for £600 their, rather than paying for the brand.but to be honest you dont wanna be buying a brand new bike, have a look on ebay find a nice clean secound hand bike, theirs loads out there which just never get rode, once you ride an xc bike its worth about have the price or build one up can build a nice one if you buy good parts secound hand eg you could get a pair of hope wheels mint for the price of shimano new good luck
