Tomm
Ok, this ain't Canada but it's still good. This was at the 7 stanes in South West Scotland. There's some really sweet single track and some awesome North Shore style trails. AeThis is one of the nice swoopy single-track sections of Ae. Most of the trails here were really rocky so a bit hard going on my Dad's rigid GT. A sus fork would make it a lot nicer. Still very fun though:Funny angle. I like the colours:Towards the end of the trail there's a few jumps/rises/drops. Here's one:KirroughtreeKirroughtree is nice. Loads and loads of technical single track = very fun.The top of the trail is a bit called McMoab, which is basically a huge bit of granite sticking out of the ground, and there's a marked trail across it which is like a very long trials section, really. Yup, we are just THAT hardcore. Check the death sign. Like drinking bleach:Here's another bit of McMoab, I probably didn't show just how steep it was:MabieMabie is where the main north shore stuff is. This is basically what it looks like, for miles. We reckon about 2km. But it's obviously very varied - some rocks, some tree trunks, some uphill, some downhill etc. How good is your balance? Then there were some really thin bits in places And just to prove I was actually there: (Check out the 1998 GT Arrowhead )Not sure if I like this one. Still, it's different Save the best for last:For anyone that's thinking of going, check the link above. That's about all you need to know. I liked Kirroughtree best because it just had miles and miles of sculpted trails and single track. Mabie was very cool for the North Shore stuff, but you had to ride quite a lot of boring cinder track to get there. Ae was pretty cool too, but I didn't appreciate the rocks on my rigid beast, and I thought that Kirroughtree was better overall anyway. mink
did you not find the other single track areas in mabie? cause there is ALOT with some MASSIVE jumps n doubles... We didn't do the red route at Mabie where all the best single track is because we rode the blue and all the north shore stuff instead but I'm planning on going back at sometime and riding it cos it sounds cool. What happened to Mink's Orange Crush hardtail?Im off to Haldon again on Sunday, Scotland looks miles better but Haldon is only a 2 hour drive, it better not rain on Sunday! The Crush frame is sat in my garage, I felt the need for a bigger, heavier and more burly Orange so I bought a patriot frame Might build the patriot into a full on downhill bike and build the crush back up into a tough XC bike.I don't think you're doing too bad with haldon, it looks pretty nice. When was the last time you went there? Admitedly its a bit limited but there are some really nice trails that you can easily ride over and over again! The XC route is only 6km long so you could do that a good few times in the day if you didnt get distracted by some of the more interesting 'black runs' Where else do you recomend in that area then Matt? Tomm
That place in Scotland looks very nice. May have to organise myself a trip up there sometime Yeah, it's worth a look certainly if you want to do a weekend or even a week XC riding. If you've got a car and can drive places then there's 7 different places you can go, easily enough to keep you entertained for a week.
