RR_Trials
Our Sponsor is supplying us with a Demo rig after watching us at the South-west motor show demo and being invited back next year. He has decided he would like the hole 'act' to look more professional. Basically we have a choice of what we would like it to be made of and what obstacles we would like. The ideas i have come up with is a 'flat pack' idea. Basically made so that it can be taken apart and put together(i guess this is like most demo rig. I have not much exsperience in them ...)Anyway, any ideas? or even pictures of other peoples.Cheers,RR Trials
Rebelistic
I don't know much about them, but if you search in th riding pics there are some pictures of Ashton's demo set up.Might help

adamtrials
Thin, high rails to ride across/ gap between, big drops, large "ladders" for backwheeling up, high platforms, things like picnic benches to backwheel so people can relate to the sizes of objects? Sidehop bar, jump over people lying down, crush a coke can, a naff commentator, etc etc...

(the coke can thing) I have never watched a demo of someone else only performed at my owncheers,RR Trials
adamtrials
Is that a joke? (the coke can thing) I have never watched a demo of someone else only performed at my ownI believe Martyn Ashton uses it as a last resort if there is a tough crowd...Unknowingly i jumped onto a almost full can the other day and got soaked

Matthew_Gibson
I'm kind of trying to get some original ideas.Material Strong and lightSurfaces Grippy and hard wearingColoursObjects Rails drops, gaps, side hop barsAnd more.....Should be easy to put up too, you don't want to be setting it up for hours. Ashtons rig is pretty basic, but it still looks good. There is a few pic of the onza one on here I'm sure..
JonCongreve
For materials it's gonna be something like a few sheets of plywood over a metal structure/frame, so it can be folded and taken down easily.I'm not too sure about surfaces, but some like 'griptape' sounds good
RR_Trials
well we have a good idea for the surface. This company that specializes in 'stick on' surfaces has a black grip type thing
RR_Trials
What colours do you guys think would look professional but still cool... ( basically i wont it to appeal to young kids through to adults)cheers, RR Trials
Sponge
A good, and entertaining commentator can be important, as he can give the crowd a better idea of what's going on. Such as "This is what's known as a front tap, it's an extremely powerful technique" when a demo rider is rocketing up something. As well as being able to provide some info on some of the riders to keep the crowd busy when the riders take a tiny break or something. Definitely worth having a good commentator or else more pressure will be put on the riders to keep the show going.Hype it up and stuff to make it a good demo, like for a sidehop bar, do a small competition with the riders. With the biggest hoppers last, and the commentator saying to the crowd "can he make it?" to just get the crowd going a bit more..Just a few ideas, but might be useful if you want a successful demo
RR_Trials
We love it sponge. You have got me thinking about the performance now rather then the obstacles...SO, ideas on both, The rig and the Show Appreciated, Cheers.RR Trials
RR_Trials
Any more ideas or is that the end of this thread. Obviously i don't wont to be cheeky and do no work. So i have been thinking a handlebar height box (of some description) with a slope on one side. but i was thinking that it could be a detachable triangle so it could become a gap to a thin point also i was thinking of getting one of those trailer things to carry it all in wit a pole of some sort joining up to the box so it could be a thin thing to ride.I was thinking the colour should be black with white writing (obviously my sponsor wants there name over it).And as far as concerns the show we have some ideas lined up. Has anyone got any videos of that show people do when they get someone to lie flat and they jump over them.....Cheers,RR Trials
adamtrials
I'd say handlebar height is far to small to impress people. If you can afford it a fully enclosed trailer would be great as you can drop off the roof of it, and attach obstacles to it. People wasnt to see big drops, stuff that looks dangerous. Instead of a slope maybe a sort of jump type ramp for a bit of airtime.

How about..... some scaffolding to add to the equation Cheers,RR Trials
Matthew_Gibson
If he makes it bar height, then he could take a few pallets and gradually make it bigger. The detachable triangle sounds good too. Make it so its like a rail. As its not attached to any thing you could make the gap bigger
RR_Trials
EXACTLY. That was what i was trying to say lol. Having it so the gap can get bigger starting pretty small then getting toe commentator to say can he do an extra 5" and so on.Keep the ideas rolling.Cheers,RR Trials
liam-pantera
I think the beast thing to do is modify a transit van with a trailer so the trailer could be used for carrying bikes and other equipment and the roof of the van should level on top with a metal surface covered in grip tape so u dont slip off and even in we weather. a sidehop bar in necesary and also some little boxes and stuff.
RR_Trials
A side hop bar isn't really going to be included as its so predictable and unless its a record side hop most people wont be interested i kind of want to make the demo more originalCheers for all the idea's so far RR Trials
Matthew_Gibson
Get one of those microphones that Ryan Leech (they clip on to your helmet/head) has, No need for a commentator, do it your self. You'll need some tunes to play, Or you could have a band.
JonMack
i think a comentator is a must, you can then do things like backwheel the box, then add a pallet, then backwheel it again, then as it gets higher and higher start hypingup the croud saying how youve never done this height before [even if you have], but miss a few times and keep messing it up, (3 or 4 times) then finally nail it, whenever theyve done stuff like that at NASS the croud always gives a big round of applause
RR_Trials
Yes i like the hole idea of hyping the crowd up Id like to bring maybe an act into it mae it original like a sort of play but not too cheesy. If you don't understand say and i will explain better....Cheers,RR Trials
