roly
Hi, some people seem to use chainstay protectors on their down tube but I have seen pictures of what looks like a length of foam cable tied to the tube. This looks like it would do a bit more to stop dinks instead of just scratches. What do you use and does it work?

Chris Elson
Hi I have heard drain pipes work, use zip zies to hold it on. Long strips of wood along the downtube held on by zip zies , and then covered by an innertube. Cant think of any think else , cleanbikes used to sell them but they said that the company that makes them , have stopped making them. max-t
you could always give an old tyre a try...i know a few people who have cut a section of rubber off of their old tire and cable tied it onto the frame.it seems to have good shielding qualities too and its cheap max... Koop.
Don't use a protector and you will have even more incentive to make that rail gap and not dent ur shiny new downtube PLUS they look weird and think of all that extra weight
A!!
Armourdillo is your best bet if you can find one on ebay or something, as they aren't manufactured anymore. I agree they don't look pretty, but if you are trying something new or something that is likely to damage your frame if you don't make it, it's worth putting one on (better to be safe than sorry). The only thing i did find when i used an armourdillo, was that if the downtube did take any fairly hard or heavy knocks, it would leave a long thin crease in the downtube, it happens because the armourdillo gives protection by using long pieces of tube inside the material. But if you can't get hold of one, the next best thing is an old cut down tire or a small piece of drainpipe and cable tie it to the downtube. Peperami
Surely a piece of foam pipe cladding would do the same job?
Skoze
that is a devastating hair cutIf thats referring to Chris' lid, then megalol The drainpipe idea works, could just use half a pvc tube, same job. Armourdillos do do a good job though, but if you really twat it, the 'poles' inside it gove you lots of nice creases along the downtube
Alex@Flawless Bikes
Just use an inertube, should work.
Alex Dark
i made a brilliant one.....sheet of chequer plate, cut to size ( will be drilled soon ) with some foam underneath, zip-tied on

spaceman
TRA uses a piece of stainless steel shim stock (a very thin piece of stainless steel sheet, thickness goes as thin as 0.001''), secured by those metal hose clips. It won't protect your downtube from dents, but from the scratches during hook-ups.
