Tidytrials
Any good for trials? Looking at a hayes/shimano/avid?
theone2be
Avid bb7. No contest. It's got loads of bite and great modulation. Get the 185 or even the 203 if you want, just spray loads of lube in the cable and set it up right and it can easily out perform some hydraulic disc's. roly
Yeah the bb7 is really good but the calipers are not that sturdy. I have broken one. The bb5 is alright too, it only adjusts on one side as opposed to two but if you set it up it doesn't matter. Its not quite as powerful but I think its only about £50 new

Dan6061
I have a 160 BB7 on the front of my Mod, and it's lovely.Has modulation, and it locks even when I don't pull the lever as hard as possible.
Mark W
I ran a 203 on the front of mod and it was the best brake I've ever felt, ever. It worked faultlessly all the time, simply 'cos it was so big that even if the rotor got crap all over it you could still get it to stop you dead. Once you got used to it it was easy enough to modulate too Got a 160 on there now, and I'm liking it. It's a little more temperamental in terms of it going poop if you get any contaminant on the rotor, but it's not the end of the world
RICHY.R
the avids do seem verry good as i see lots of great riders using them but i would still choose my hope mono trials over any Mechanical disk or even a magura with a decent set of pads in. super
I am lead to believe the avids' are very light!I mean don't get me wrong a hope is always going to look alot nicer than a cheapo mechanical disc, but at the same time i am a weight obsessed freak when it comes to my bike.
