laurent
i use echo 6061 forged cranks (05 black), with bashring and front eno front freewheel. After three weeks of riding, the thread for freewheel mounting is destroyed! So now, i have to replace the crank...and i'm hesitating to buy the same crank, because i think the thread of these echo 6061 forged cranks is very weak. But they also are the cheapest..What is the truth? is it really weak?if it is weak...what cranks should i get? because i'm tired of pedal and freewheel's thread problems. Tim-Hill..Yeah Mate
hi,YOU DON'T HAVE TO REPLACE YOUR CRANK!!!rite heres what to do...take your bike to engineers where they do welding, weld another layer ontop of the bugerd thread then tap the crank, its around m26 thread or something?you can buy tap and die kits from b&q for like £6.00.also it wont cost too much, i would say 15£ max! that is what i would do because new cranks are like 70£ minimum.or another idea is to go to engineering place where they do helicoiling and get it helicoiled back to its thread size... EASY WORKTim.
MikeCottTrials
did you mess around with the thread much cos if you did your stupid ive got the same ones and ive just banged em on and left them and they seem to be doing the business
Simon
My mates did exactly the same today. There was actually no thread left on the crank, it was completly smooth. Needless to say, after the 2nd time its happened to him, he isn't buying Echo cranks again.
Mark W
Happened to a load of people on OTN too. BT sold a helicoil for cranks before for FFW, but who knows if they still do. No doubt Rav will put up some sort of post here
