Guest
There I was (bored) trying to think of ways to improve my riding. Then I thought. "Could shoes improve my riding?" To help me with my theory can you send in reviews of the shoes you wear riding and if you think they make a difference and why. Can you lay it out like this: Name of shoe: Nike Air Make: Nike Do they make a difference: Yes Are they comfortable for riding: Yes What is the bottom made out of and how thick(estimate): Rubber & 1.5 cm

Krisboats
Oh dear lord... you can't ride in trainers, thats the worst thing to ride in ever. A nice flat sole that sits comfortaby across all the pins on your pedal offers much more grip and a nicer feel than any rudeboy shoes.Vans work for me... basically because of the large size i need but also the depth of the sole helps your riding too, but you want a compramise. Not too thick to leave your foot inflexible, and not too thin to give you footache.Skate shoes are definately easier for riding in than trainers, if you still wanna be "rude" though you could go for something like these

JonCongreve
Skate shoes have gotta be the best for riding shoes, due to their large flat sole, which will offer the most grip, as has already been said

TheMunn
It's shimano dx shoes for me, awesome shoes, high inner side to top my ankles getting knarled up, super grippy sole, sexy cover that goes over the laces Not bad money either, retail is about £45-£
Tarquin
I use Oakley hiking (kinda) trainers.Pretty flat bottoms, super comfy, dont slip off your feet, and with them being for hiking, they have mega grip on the bottoms!
Tomm
Skate shoes are definately easier for riding in than trainers, if you still wanna be "rude" though you could go for something like theseFunny you should mention those, because the Adidas Superstars (AKA (full) shell toes) are the best shoes I have ever ridden in. The sole is awesomely grippy and they fit better than a lot of skate shoes (although that is clearly very personal). Unfortunately you'll never know the joy of riding in them I don't really get on with skate shoes - they don't really offer much support and it's very easy to roll over on your ankle (maybe that's just me and my dodgy ankles), and they make my feet sweat like nothing else. They can be nice and grippy though - Vans Rowley XL2s spring to mind.At the moment I ride in whatever I'm wearing at the time - mostly random trainers or Merrell walking (ish) shoes. As long as they're comfortable and have a grippy sole then I don't think shoes will make that much difference. Although most people on here will tell you that skate shoes rock - but I'm sure it's more because they're fashionable than because they're actually better than Nike/Adidas/Reebok/whatever. My Etnies Callicut fit me perfect and Rowley slims are too tight. UK size 8 btw if that matters. A proper bmx is far superior to bog standard trainers imo, but them addidas superstars are pretty comfy too
Mark W
The best I can really say about Orchids is that they're 'accurate', really. I'm an 11 with Orchids and they fit nicely, but almost all 11's I've tried having fitted nicely, apart from one or two Vans shoes that needed to be properly broken in. Some of the Orchids have weird bits on the ankle area that might need a bit of breaking in, but not all of them. They're all properly good to go after 1-2 rides though My navy Lurkers came today
Jez
OK, people are gonna love me for this one:Name of shoe: Steel toecapped bootsMake: HDDo they make a difference: YesAre they comfortable for riding: YesWhat is the bottom made out of and how thick(estimate): Rubber & 3cm-ishComfy as it gets (unlike most steel toeys), but you can barely feel what your pedals are doing. Especially if they're new. And they weigh a ton.Not reccomended for riding unless you've had them for yonks and don't really care (like me!).On the upside, no pedal will ever eat it's way through these (seriously, these are what I ride in)
RobinJI
I used to ride in converse all-stars, but although there incredibly comfortable, they are really slippery in the wet because the soles are quite hard compound rubber, but you can really feel the pedal well, but still with a bit of support. Now I ride in Dekline skate shoes, which are mega comfortable and have lasted really well so far, there also mega grippy with soft flat soles. Also Vans are great but the soles wear out kinda quick, and all the shoes that don't have about a foot of padding all round them have really thin soles that can hurt your feet after a while.
