The Duck
When i was out riding yesterday i snapped my chain . It was getting late anyway so i just went home with the snapped chain cos I just couldn't be bothered to fix it there and then. I just had a look at it and two of the links are completely bent, so need replacing. Is there anywhere i can buy just a couple of links for a KMC kool chain rather than forking out £12 for a whole new one? (i'm slightly skint at the mo)Cheers Edited August 17, 2006 by Mr_Tensile

stetpro
just get a new chain because if you use an old chain them links will be the weakest point and will proberely snap again. a new chain isn't that much and u will benefit getting a new one. you could also hurt your self badly if your trusting a dogdy chain
The Duck
Cheers to everyone who offered but i tried twenty-twelve people and because i've got the skinnier chain (1/8") and everyone else has the fatter one i couldn't find one the right size .So i just gave up and ordered a new one. So now my bank balence is: -£4.20 Cheers
downhill_rob2@hotmail.com
Dont be upset about your balance mate, atleast you know your chain is actually going to last another few months!I had a KMC, snapped it once, fixed it, 2 days later, shapped, fixed it, then snapped 1 day after that....I think the chains get really weak after a few months of having them! i just replaced my old one which my mate snapped, well, the chain did have a MASSIVE crack in it, and was fairly dodgy to start off with lol, but i wasnt scared of it snapping lol
Dan6061
Chains stretch. So when you replace a few links on it, it'll have to wear down so it's all even, and they just become as weak as it was before, and snap.
Mark W
Not to mention joining chains = baaaaaaaaaad. Do it the once, then don't break it again 'til you're taking it off. Or in the case of KMC Kools, 'til you get thrown headfirst into a flight of stairs you're gapping over (happened twice with me now. Other than that, Kools just snap when I pedal along, or just before an up for me ). Cheers to everyone who offered but i tried twenty-twelve people and because i've got the skinnier chain (1/8") and everyone else has the fatter one i couldn't find one the right size . If you have the skinny Kool, it'll be 3/32. The thick Kool is 1/8".
