Fishy
Right, I've decided the Dmr tensioner was shit, and it broke, so I've replaced it with a Shimano Sora mech. It fits fine, but the only problem is it doesn't stay inline with the chainring or rear sprocket. Is there something I can do to make it stay inplace, but keeping the tension? JonCongreve
Use an old little bit of gear cable....connect it at the 'furrel' bit (i think that's the name) and at where the tension of the cable is held, adjust it to where your chainline needs to be, and you're sorted I hope this has helped
Fishy
I do have a kind of idea, but how do I hold the cable through the 'furrel'. The is some wire on already, under a bolt, but it isn't doing anything. Sorry about all these questions, but it's getting right on my boobs. JonCongreve
Well if there's no 'furrel' then you'll have to find a way of holding the cable in place....?I'm not sure how you could do this.Once you have the cable through the 'furrel' part nicely attached, jus adjust the chainline and tighten the bolt up to hold the cable and therefore mech in the correct place
Fishy
Is the furrel the plastice bit that you spin to adjust the chainline?

quick_spider
An alternative is to used an old spoke as a 'cable' You might also be able to use the limit (H/L) adjusters to move the mech to the right position.Jon
Fishy
Yeah, i was playing with them earlier to see what they did, Cheers for all the replys guys, I'm in very need of them
Dan Jones
I found using a brake cable is good to hold the mech in place, if you want to lock out the mech so it doesn't hit the frame there is a guide in the FAQ's section http://www.trials-forum.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=7202
Bionic Balls
right...this is absolute genius...take out the big spring in the middle of the mech (pliers?), then get a longer bolt to put in the lower limit hole....this pushes against a sticky out bit inside the mech and makes your bike stay in whichever gear you choose- i'll get a pic of mine tomorrow if you like...for more security, drill out the upper limit hole to at least M5 and put in a longer bolt....with both these bolts, the mech cannot move into any other gearyou can also change gear if you want to....and there's no cable (which, if like me you sidehop to the right, you keep breaking)...credit to "gears" for this idea...although i've modded it for myself...adam

Thats the best idea.
Dan6061
The 'ferrul' that you were talking about is a barrel adjuster. Just like on cable brake levers.Use the end of a brake cable (bit that's usually in the lever) at the top of the barrel adjuster. - Like in the pic a few posts above.make sure the chain's on.Pull the cable so it's relativly tight, then do up the bolt. Now pedal the bike, if it falls towards the dropout, take a look under the mech, and you'll see a plate that the two H/L screws press on. These are caklled the Limit stops.Whichever screw is touching the plate, loosen it to move the mech away from the dropouts, and vice versa.Just fiddle around with that untill it stays in place. Its by far the best and easiest bodge and if done correctly, will lead to a mech thats adjustable by hand within a matter of seconds.
