monty_man
I've got me bike set on 22:15, but me mate says most stock riders ride on 22:18!I thick this is bullpoo, because i think its ace and i can now ride better. (hint from friend: its only good for roling gaps! becoz iv had a go!) so could you please comment on what you think is right for think bike on a all round scale, ie: backwheeling, gaping and so on! personally i think its best suited to me....again my friend says most people ride 22:18 and his way is w*nk!cheers Monty_man and trialsjunkie99

JonCongreve
22:18 is an awesome gear, but i might try 18:15 so i can run smaller sprockets
philking
but i can do bigger things in this ratio and i prob cnt even back wheel a curb in tht ratioWell there you go then... Generally speaking it should be 1.2 (if you divide the chain ring with the rear sprocket size), i.e. 22:18 = 1.22222 = the way to be. Mark W
It feels good at first, but then you go to a 'real' gear and you'll find your riding will improve so much. When you start doing bigger moves, it comes down to explosive power and just being able to launch up stuff from very low speed, which is a lot harder to do with a harder gear. Like I said, it'll feel OK, but if you go to a spinnier gear you'll improve straight away. It'll feel different at first and you'll have to alter your timing a little, but the fact that like 99.9% of all stock riders run a setup that gives them as close a ratio as possible to a 1:1.2 (e.g. 22:18...) ratio should give you an idea...
