MadChikken
Probably dug into the freehub body slightly, I had the same problem last time I pulled my cassette off. Have you got a chain whip? Best bet is probably to wrap that around the middle of the cassette block and try to loosen it off. Other than that, not too sure how 2 go about it, bar a big hammer but I wouldnt advise!M@Edit: Not quick enough clearly :$ Edited August 15, 2006 by MadChikken
Fishy
Simon: Thats whats happened I think, b*****d won't come off. Atleast I get to use my grinder... munkee
Hit the rings with a hammer opposite to the direction your hub engages. Instead of using a chainwhip you can get a piece of wood, nail an old chain on and you hav your very own chain whip.. or just jam the wood against the rings your not hitting. Davey
Do you mean like a spacer? If so I used a flat head screwdriver to get under it and prise it off, the further it gets the wider head screwdriver you need to prise it further!Davey Edited August 15, 2006 by Small_Gear_Big_Style
Fishy
No, a lockring. It's off a different wheel, with a SS kit on it, i need the spacers off it. The wheel i couldn't get the cassette off is the wheel is use at the mo. I'm changing it to SS.Any ideas on how to get the b*****d off? Davey
Without a chain whip it's tricky because you're unscrewing in the freewheel direction, try using mole grips on the sprocket to hold the freewheel while you give the lockring hell, I assume you got the lockring tool? This isn't advised if you actually want to use the sprocket afterwards by the way, lol!Davey
Fishy
Yeah I got a lockring tool, just not a chain whip. I give up.
Davey
Might be a LBS job, only other thing I can think of is try using a length of chain, if you can get a decent grip on it, maybe hold it with a rag or something wedged through the gaps between the links, and use that like a chainwhip, because it's basically the same but without a convenient handle! Fishy
I've tried that, I can use cassette spacers for now, aslong as I can find enough.
fredrico
Yeah I got a lockring tool, just not a chain whip. I give up.Get an old chain, wrap it around the cog, put both ends on the ground and stand on it. Use the the tool as usual and that should work
