Evolution Of Trials Components...

Greetings

Recommended Posts

It's been about 4 years since Koxx released the first Levelboss. And that's about when the manufacturers started producing low frames, gradually reaching the point where the top tube is straight.

Then we've had the Python, another "ridiculous" design, a mod frame with the geometry of a stock bike. Then mods without bashguards, frames filled in with helium, high bb rise frames (note that the majority of the Echo frames have a very high bb). Ok, now we've got stock frames with horizontal dropouts designed for 116mm hub spacing. Millions of colourful and differently shaped parts are available only to make the life of wholesalers more tedious. Oh, and titanium frames - in this case Triton which is becoming more and more popular.

And this has all happened within just a few years. Obviously, we can easily guess what trials frames/forks/components will look like in a year or two - they won't change that much. But my god, in 10 years? How popular will trials be then? How many people will be riding and how big a company will Echo be? I dread to think. One thing is certain - people aren't going to stop riding and the sport will become more and more popular and so the manufacturers will have to adapt to the demand of the market.

Another one of these topics, I guess i'll make the obligitory post

Titanium Holes.

:lol::lol::lol:

There will be no stocks with gearing. Also all the top stock frames will have horizontal dropouts.

Basicly everything will be how Deng wants it. No matter how much Ali C dislikes it, it'll happen.

Maybe we'll see 90% of trials bikes with rear discs.

Frames are pretty much going to turn in to this:

Its already happening as well the new koxx prototype etc... i knew the ruthless switchblade was just ahead of its time.

I cant find the bike fully built up in a pic..but it had some pretty interesting ideas.. which we may see also being used.

they will basicly turn into scooters (pythons)

I hate developments :( I have gone backwards, big bash, cable brakes front and rear, shortish bike with high bars, gears, narrowish rims.............thats how a bike should be :D no need to change

One day they will design the perfect frame which has no major stress points, then there should be no need to change, However, there will still be people trying to set new fashions and so forth.

I think the next thing will be rim mounted disks on the rear, I would love that almost as much as a cream tea.

Already been done, i think it was vario that did it... the disc rotor was basically bolted to the rim.... everyone decided it would be shit and that it would buckle too easily. I guess everyone was right as the thing was never released.

Stock bikes will have 2.7 tyres and someone will have eventually figured out a way to stop pinch flats completely  (i can hope so).

There will be at least one echo component on everyones bikes... check now, i bet you've got one... its kind of scary when i thought about it last week.

Wheels wont be built using spokes, we'll have gravitational generators that hold the rim in place and automatically correct the strength of the gravitational field to remove buckles as soon as we get them.

when did the Trials scene kick off? (like the tongue brothers, hawyes an ashton) I remember seeing them in 2001. Onza brought out the budget mods in 2000 I think, and you can really see how much the trials scene has evolved in 6 years or so.

"Dirty Tricks..." was filmed in 1997 - Hans Rey was ripping it up years before that too...

the Disc-rotor-stuck-to-the-rim idea was also used on the Ruthless trials rig, as shown here:

IPB Image

as for what i'd like to see in the next 10years?

a, 100+ engagement points on a freewheel and hub (permanant engagement, basically!)

b, titanium parts being a lot cheaper

c, a radical new and stronger spoke lacing technique on a dishless hub matched up to an indestructable rim and a trials specific rear tyre that weighs less than an XC tyre

I used to buy mbuk when I started in 1998 for some of the features on ashton etc..similar to now, only one real trials type feature per mag, but now you have 'hip-hop'. My mate made me watch tricks 'n' stunts/chain reaction etc (think that was in 1999/2000 though)

No need in changing most frames, cant change perfection.

why cant you change perfection? Take a big chunk of it out and its changed has it not?

Besides current frames aren't perfect. All the weight weenies will forever be wanting a lighter bike

Your talking about comp frames arn't you.

ermm...nope.... some street riders like light frames too?

how you ride not what you ride.

true, but regardless of what sport you're doing, a better standard of equipment does help to produce a better standard of performance. E.G. giving an Jenson Button (as example) an F1 car with a V6 engine

Bikes will just become one bit of ali scaff bar with a magura at each end, a pair of cranks in the middle, and a pair of bars at one end.

I'm waiting for someone to invent the next type of brake, nobody's done that since V's came around. It's about time we had something new.

I'm placing bets on it being cable operated, whatever it is. And I bet it's a rim brake.

Oh and pre-ground rims made out of some silly material that don't lose their grind.

I think a more noticeable change will be in the way people ride. It's changed a helluva lot in the last 10 years, so it's scary to think about what we'll all be up to in 2016. Backflip taps, anyone?
