i have just bought an onza t pro, and i think the freewheel is creaking making a horrible noise, does anybody know how to prevent this from making the noise or what the noise is? also what do people recomend in the way of chain tensioners?

how much do u need to tension the chain? i was increasing the tention on 1 side and it was pulling the wheel to one side whud i tension the other side to pull it back into the centre, i dont know anything about 20" bikes so im all new to how freewheels work and chain tensioners(even though chain tensioners look incredible simple)

The creaking could well be coming from the crank tapers or the BB shell, so maybe try the ol' strip 'n' grease? Usually solves it :)

Pull the wheel back on the other side if you need to, don't do it all on one side. When you tighten the wheel nuts off, give the chain tugs a couple more turns until they're tight so you take up the slack too (Y)

In addition to what's already suggested, make sure the lockring is tight on your freewheel - it's the cause of about 80% of the funny noises made by a t-pro.

what freewheel tool will i need to use to tightening the freewheel on the crank, will i need the park tool FR-8IPB Image

No proper tools needed, just a screwdriver and hammer, you hammer the lockring anti clockwise I think, someone will back me up on this. It's the ring on the inner side of the freewheel with the 2 notches out, use 1 to put a screwdriver in and hammer it, thus turning it.

Anti-clockwise is the correct way (Y) i found that when i was using an ACS it needed tightening pretty much after every ride, just check it regularly. Also If i remember correctly when my chain was very tight it kept causing the lockring to come un-done so just don't have it too tight.

when i spin the cranks round i can see the freewheel goin from side to side is this the reason for it creaking, is it stressing the freewheel, is there anyhting to help stop it, or just buy a descent freewheel?

I have a tensile freewheel and mine still moves from side to side a bit, i can see why you want to stop this it annoys me too as the chain goes from slightly slack to tight. But i think this is a common problem with front freewheel users. Are you sure the creaking isn't coming from your bottom bracket area? It is most likely that you need to take you cranks off and put some grease (not loads) on the tapers where the cranks sit. This got rid of my creaking but in the end i just got a new Bottom bracket. To take the cranks off you need a tool called a crank extractor. But yea i would get a decent freewheel ( tensile ) :)

This may help: Freewheel topic

Use the search for info on those freewheels there's plenty of topics on them. The overall opinion seems to be:

Tensile- well made , good value for money, plenty of engagement points.

Eno- Extremely well made, get what you pay for, more engagements.

It all depends on what you want to pay for one ;)
