Houseface
there are pros and cons to both.cassettes are expensive but you dont have to keep buying new ones everytime it gets dirt in you can just take it to pieces and clean it. even buy new pawls/springs etc.freewheels are cheaper but you can get some decent ones but they seem to break quicker from what ive seen.over all its what you would rather have breaking and how much money really steve. Mark W
I don't really get how people think that if you get "dirt" inside a freewheel they die, or that you can't service freewheels? My Eno lasted for well over a year 'til I sheared a pawl, which (apart from a buggered lockring that was my fault :$) was the only problem I've had. If you get a Profile cassette hub, welcome to a world of problems. You WILL need to replace the drivers bearings; they use some cheap Chinese piece-of-shit bearings that last no length of time. A fair few people on here have broken the ratchet and have had to send it off to Profile to have a new shell/ratchet fitted. The lockring on the driver comes loose and strips ridiculously easily. The list goes on. Profile are reknowned in the BMX world as being over-priced and not particularly good, but people in the trials world haven't really cottoned onto this fact yet. Freewheels like the Tensile (£35), Try-All (£50) and Eno (£80-85) blow the Profile out of the water in terms of price at least - the three freewheels listed also feel pretty solid (well, I'm told the TryAll does, even if the people who have them refuse to admit they skip, eh Will? ), are easy to maintain, and last for a long time without needing to be cleaned or anything. If you get the Tensile or TryAll, to service it all you really need to do is spray some GT-85 into the gap between the driveshell and the lockring and that flushes out any mank inside there, so it's a piece of piss to look after. To be honest, I'd just stick with freewheels. Cheaper, work just as well (if not better), fixed hubs are more reliable by far than Profiles, and it's lighter overall. There are about a million topics about this too, so just try the search tool as well
dan more
thanksguys the good thing a bout eno free wheels is that you can repplace any broken components if any thing goes wrong. dan
Conor the basher.
i would say freewheel now i have seen the new tryall one 108 engagments oh my god lol thanks conor
watto
With the current range of freewheels, i feel that a freewheel would be the best option to take, most have replacements parts that dont cost an arm and a leg, unlike profile parts, also freewheels are cheaper to start with. Matt Henstock
hi there me and my freinds have been b**ching about whats better out of csset hub or free wheeli think free wheel because i ride with one my feind thibks casset because he runs one what do u thinnks better? thanks dan Ok, Dident really get much off that but... Some people like freewheel some people like freehubs, I dont think this will ever change to be honest as long as companys keep making both. The main reason i am wanting a profile casette hub at the moment is because the amount of trousers im ripping. Also i think they have a slightly stiffer engagement even though there both 18:12 . I am going too say freehubs for the win im afraid .Matt
