OD404
Just finished my mechanical engineering degree and will be starting work shortly as a product development engineer for Cummins Engines.I've always been into designing and tinkering with things, and that pretty much lead me through my career thus far. It is really about looking at what you enjoy doing now and seeing if there is a possible career path in it, it's not always the case, but it's a good start nonetheless. Barbra
Going for diploma in Health and Safety. Although I intended on the army (IT and Comms), but due to my chest, I am unable to join for a while.Ideally, I'd love to start my own business, but thinking of something unique is very difficult and I don't have any good skills...you know, ninja skills, hunting skills, computer hacking skills...'sometimes i think i should join the army...but what happens if i get lag out there!? i'm screwed!' I may join the army, i'm very undecided though, either an engineer or IT/Comms or something, i don't think i'd join till i was 18 though. I am looking towards electronic engineering or some kind of systems engineering. Ive had bad experiences with maths in the past and havent done it at As/A level but Im pretty sure im capable of learning it

OD404
What was the maths content like in the course? I am looking towards electronic engineering or some kind of systems engineering. Ive had bad experiences with maths in the past and havent done it at As/A level but Im pretty sure im capable of learning itEngineering Degrees have quite a high maths content as engineering is really just the practical application of physics. Granted they do teach you all the maths you will need in a separate module as well as in the more engineeringy module, but if you aren't a fan then might be best to steer clear.Other options for you if that is the case could be to look at courses like industrial design (if you really want to go to uni), which are more biased towards design in an arty sense as opposed to the maths heavy mechanical/electronic courses. Or you could look at going down the apprentiship route, as a qualification it's no worse than a degree, it is simply more hands on and will give you a more practical experience of engineering if that's more your thing (I noticed on my course there were some great mathematicians, but half of them would struggle to change a car wheel ).Hope that helps you out a bit.
