Tom_
I have read alot of topics on disk brakes and alot of people recomend the avid bb7 disk. Is it really better than a hydraulic? I currently have a hs33 on the front but want to upgrade to a disk, Preferably with good modulation before the bite. Would I be better off getting the avid or a hope mono trial (or somthing similar to it)help apreciatedtom
lardo_69
To be honest i have never run a Avid disc on the front But i have run a hope. Just put the hope on and forget about it. I use to bleed mine maybe once every 6months or so. Its a Beautiful brake to say the least nothing compairs. It grips its got modulation a small amount but you will get us to it. Now i dont no about avid disc brakes, but Running cable disc seems pretty pointless to me. Surly a well set up V brake going to have alot more bite then a cable disc. Then after About a few weeks the discs stopping power is going to reduce as the cable stretches. I can guarantee that you are always going to be be tinkering with the thing and it well drive you mad when you cant get it how you like it.In my opinion just get the hope. You will Not Regret it. Dan6061
I have an Avid BB7 sat in my daw in my room, just gotta wait for my wheel to come. But, my mate has one on the front of his Adamant, and fook me is it nice.It modulates if you're really light on the lever, but then it just locks!I'll tell you what mine's like when I get it on. Hopefully tomorrow if the postman likes me.
the judge
i agree i cant see any real advantages that make cable disks worth buyingApart from the fact that they're loads cheaper and loads better

You will Not Regret it.you clearly havernt owned an avid. they are stunning brakes. more power than any other brake ive used ( inc hope mono trial) the cable issue isnt a problem and if it stretchs its two seconds of a job to turn an adjuster. seriously just get a bb7, better than an avid in virtually everyway. oh btw the try all is exactly the same as a normal mono trial
watto
I run a lower end cheaper cable disc brake, (hayes mx-2) and i love it , it modulates brilliantly and locks perfect, a fair bit of adjustability on the caliper, and when used in conjunction with a top notch lever or as such it works brilliantly, i've had mine for well over a year now, as long as you keep your cable in good condition your brake will work , to keep my running smooth every sunday i:1. Flush outer cable with wd40 or similar.2. Teflon grease the inner cable. It's a 5 minute job to keep your brake working great, well worth it in the end, and i doesn't cost too much to get new cable, a matter of a few quid, rather than if you knacker your hose up when you have to shell out for hose nd bleeding kits etc. Well worth cable

mat hudson
avid mechanicals are the most powerful brake on the moarket as far as i'm concerned. easy to look after and matenance free.
CurtisRider
2. Teflon grease the inner cable.never grease cables, it dries up and goes sticky just some decent lube is more than enough
