Token
Hey people,Dilemma:Ok so I cut down the my steerer on my GU's so it'd be all kosha with the t-pro frame. Problem is now I've got an XTP and by the looks of it im about 30mm short of getting the 2nd bolt of the clamp from the stem onto the steerer. Now the cut down steerer is 180mm in length and apparently I need a 210mm steerer to get it all on. I never thought that changing frames would cut me off that much slack, I know the t-pro's got an internal headset and the XTP im obviously using external which takes up all of about 25mm. But to compensate for having the external headset, I removed 2 spacers which was on the steerer when they were on the t-pro so Ive given myself about 10mm but I can't see where im losing all this steerer? Now what I guess I'm going to have to do is try to swap a set of uncut echo lites for the GU's but apparently according to some geezers even uncut lites are 190mm surely somethings gone abit tits up? it was my good man rickycoleman that done the measuring (with a next ruler from a sale apparently), just to clarify though, has anybody suffered from this problem of needing an abnormally long steerer on an XTP and are Lites really only 190mm?any replies will be great cheers guys xmat Edited August 3, 2006 by Scopse
Mat Smith!
You can fit them easily, Waddy was using lites with his XTP and he cut his down and has a 5mm spacer I think, hes changed frames now and it's just the same, have you tryed it yet in the frame? or is that just from measurement?Mat
Token
tried it in the frame, saw that the steerer wasnt going to come even close to the second bolt on the stem, then started taking measurements to see where we'd gone wrong, but it looks like I need a set of forks with a loooong steerer.don't suppose there's anybody to hand with either a set of uncut echo lites, or even an XTP mod that could do some measuring please please please I hate having to wank off to trials vids instead of riding. Hobnobs
Sounds like it should be alright, Just make sure the top of the steerer is within about 2cm of the top of the stem if you can. The closer the better really.
