Hi

To try repair this follow the following instructions:-

1.Get your tools. ( allen keys, adjustable spanner)

2.Take off the rear mech.

3.Then get you adjustable spanner and fix it to the rear mech hanger so this can act a lever to bend the mech hanger back into place.

4.Bend the rear mech hanger into place using the adjustable spanner bend it slightly over so it is not straight and the when you release it it should spring back to be straight.(Be careful not to snap the rear mech hanger the are quite brittle)

5.Re-fit rear mech.

6.Adjust as required.

7.GO RIDE.

Hope this helps

thanks when willyoube on msn i want to talk to you

I've had countless bent mech hangers... and really, I am working on a home-made solution..., something that would hide the mech between the frame and wheels... :- not outside the frame to bash it on failed sidehops....and that could fold upon impact rather than bend and break. (N)

I gave it a try yesterday by reshuffling some bits and springs from an old shimano mech, when well for a ride, but I need a sturdier design... the metal used was too soft for the spring tension...and needed regular re-alignement

Will post my results (Y) if conclusive

I wouldn't use a steel one - a reason behind the mech hanger being soft is so that it breaks rather than your mech when you bash it. I would rather pay out a tenner than £60 for a new Mech.

yep, if it is too strong, then, you'll botch the frame attach...

I 'll be putting some soft articulations into it... (actually, just saw an excellent other thread in the member area)

i would say get a betd cnc one, but i had one and it lasted days, it bent, but snapped when i tried to straighten it, in the mean time you can use an old booster plate if your current one has gone snap, the older magura ones (with the holes as opposed to triangles) work best, just cut one in half and pit it round your axle, screw the wheel on and then put the mech through another hole in a sensible position, then take the other half of the hanger and screw it onto the back of the mech. then you can go ride. you may have to run single speed when you do this though :)

I rode a Zebdi and it has a steel hanger and thank god! the amount of times i bent it.

Steel can be bent back loads more times, and if its made of a soft steel then it is much better than alu.

Cheap trick if you cant aford a mech hanger straightener...old 10mm axle screw it though the mech hole and tighten the nuts from the axle either side so that the axle is tightly on the hanger. Then grab the axle and align it so that its horizontal. JOB DONE (Y)
