My Frame.

Hi there people, I am going to strip my frame down to bare metal, i have a zona zip and i am going to use either nitromorse or caustic soda, i am not sure which one works on my frame.

The other thing is it is a completely bare frame with no bottombracket in and no headset, does it matter if i get either nitromorse or caustic soda in the bb threads ?

Cheers.

Dan.

You copying little biatch :) I am going to do this to my saracen soon...though i will use caustic soda because with nitromorse...It took the top layer of paint off..but has left a white layer on...not sure if it will harm the threads though.

zoo baby!

So should i put something like all tape on the bb threads to stop the caustic soda destroying them ? or is tape not good enough ?

Dan.

It eats threw the paint, but not the tape?

Hell no, you need some thing stronger than tape. Or you could try not put any soda on the threads.

aren't zips painted ?

if so then just go with the nitromorse -

you might have to give it a few coats but its a whole world safer than fecking around with a bath full of caustic soda

Took me half a tin to do my python frame and forks. Fairly big tin though

Informative

Just go and buy a tin of it. If you need more, get more :) It shouldn't take too much to do though, just go steady with it and be patient. Think it generally has usage notes on the tins anyway to give you an idea of how long to leave it (Y)

Nitromors (Y)

It won't cause any damage to your threads. I've used parcel tape to mask painted areas before + taking care not to apply big globs near the edge of this or it seeps underneath.

Pay particular attention to the hazards of Nitromors. Preparation is everything, pick up some gloves and prepare a good working area. I'd advise against stripping the frame on the bare lawn. I've got paint flakes everywhere now! I should have put down some card first so I could tidy the paint away easily.

^ The photos are of a frame which was only clear laquered, much easier than the painted frame I stripped more recently where getting rid of the last 5% of paint in difficult to reach areas took as long as the rest of the paint!

Also, make sure you have plenty of time because it takes a few coats and lots of elbow grease.

That's the link I was trying to find........this is a messy job, I'd pay Jake to do it myself...after burning the shit out of my hands last time!

Could deffo do it yourself.....just not my idea of fun. Goodluck, hope it looks good in the end.

Well, i stipped my forks down to bare metal earlier, looks good, was easy enough, just wore some very thick gloves and applied the nitromorse with a paintbrush.

I will post pictures if you want a look.

Dan.

p.s - Frame, stem and bars to come, got buy some bloody caustic soda for the bars though :(

i stripped down my zona from the shit grey to silver it's not worth doing yourself i tried using nitromorse but it did'nt work caustic soda worked but f**k me that shit burns through clothes and then skin in the end i just took it to a local garage where they "dipped" in something pretty f**king strong from the smell of it and electrosprayed it for me they made a better job than i would have made myself just get someone to do it for you
