george_seamons
Thought I'd let you all know that I was in a pretty bad car crash last night, so I might not be around for a few days, 'cos it hurts my head to sit at a computer.I was a back seat passenger in my mates 306. We were then going to the sea front to show it off. Went round a corner a bit hard, and lost control. We then hit a large oak tree head on.Me and the driver managed to get out straight away, but his gf (and my best mate) was trapped in the passenger seat, and had to be cut out by the fire crew. Took just under an hour, and she was in a pretty bad way when they finally got her out. We're all home safe and sound now, with varying injuries. The driver managed to escape with only seat belt bruises.I had the same bruises, and also a very deep wound to my wrist, which had a large chunk of glass that had to be removed with local anesthetic, and then stitched up. As well as this, I had two wounds on my head glued up (after 2 pea-sized bits of glass were removed)Ami didn't get away quite so luckily. She has two broken wrists, a snapped collar bone, a broken nose, and a possible fratctured skull, as well as two chipped teeth. But we're all alive, and thats what matters. The driver has been back to the car today, and he said it destroyed him to see it. The fire crew had to cut the roof and doors off to get Ami out, and he said looking at the state of her side of the car, she's pretty lucky to be alive.I now have a week off work, and will be claiming for injury and loss of income from his insurance. Ami is also doing the same.I've never been in a car crash before, and I never want to do it again. It felt nothing like I thought it would. All I remember is hitting the tree and going "Euuuugggghh" as I went forward, and the seatbelt pulled me back.I keep getting flashbacks of the impact, and all I can hear is Ami screaming that she was trapped and couldn't get out. For me this was the worst part. At that point I was relitavly pain free and calm, but to see her being cut free by the fire crew just made me burst into tears. It was possibly one of the worst moments of my life, 'cos I didn't know the extent of her injuries, or if she was even alive or not.The only picture I have doesn't make it seem that bad. I apologise for the bluriness, but I was drifiting in and out of concience when I took it! My mate said he'll send me some better pictures once he's got them off his camera.[attachmentid=6237]

I can't get insured on my own for less than 2k because of people like that.I hope your mate realises whats happend and learns from it. Greetings
This has reminded me of an accident which occurred to my friends when they were coming back from a party at my house. There was a storm that night and a bolt of lightning hit the tree which collapsed onto the car. 2 of my mates were killed (one of them on the spot, the other died in hospital as we waited in the corridor - we heard all that was going on over there). A very traumatic experience, the other two passengers who got away with life had to go to a psychologist because they couldn't cope with what had happened. That was caused by nature. But accidents caused by irresponsible drivers... what can I say... they should never be allowed to drive again. I imagine how you might be feeling now and it's pretty bad but at least - as you wrote - all of you are alive. It's ok if the drivers kill themselves - run into a tree alone. But more often than not, they kill other people as well.Get well soon.

munkee
Yea as said.. harsh crash. Theres always loads down my road and there have been quite a few lately where the passanger has died but driver lived. Now that must be hard to live with, especially since the road is straight and drugged up twats fall off the road and do it. My dad always says you're not going to realise how dangerous cars are until you crash and lets just hope its not a bad un.
Krisboats
Get well soon dude, hope ami is alright too.Being in the car with one of my mates is pretty close sometimes and it does make you wonder about how some people really do get away with driving like they do. N.Wood
Good to hear you were all sensible enough to be wearing seatbelts, could have been a totally different outcome without them.Glad you're all relitively OK, though i agree with Alan that drivers who do that to themselves is fair enough - Drivers who rag it with passengers in the car are being pretty irresponsible. the_soon_to_be
harsh as it sounds, as soon as i read "to show off" i kinda lost sympathy and can only be glad that the topic title didn't have the words "killed" in itseems unfair that ami got such bad injuries and the driver didn't, not wishing anything upon him but, he wanted to mess about in a car to look cool and it resuilted in he injuries, and he worries about his carbut glad your alright, and wish ami a speedy and full recoverly

yoyoyo
Damn, glad your ok though.I do agree partly that the driver guy should be punished, but when you think about it, he has just written off his car, seriously injured his girlfriend(will be interesting to see their relationship after) and injured George. Which sould be enough punishment for him to never do that again.Anyway glad your ok, have a speedy recovery and pass the same on for Ami. Simpson
Dont get me wrong im really sympathetic of what happened and im glad you all came out with "minor" injurys cobsidering the circumstances but could have been so much worse - my friends bro is brain damaged after a drugged up drived barreled his car in a field.....before i saw this thread today i was talking about how when i can drive soon i want to be a responsible driver so people can be safe with me... ive had some scary rides... 1 driver i just got out an walked home it seemed darastic at the time but things can go tits up in less than a split second.. the difference in power between staying on the road an spiriling out may be small.... but the concequences are massiveglad your all ok and learned from it... Josh Greenan!!!!!!!!!!
Im more impressed by a safe, good driver than one that shows off by going too fast and going on the opposite side of the road. Hope you all get well soon. Edited July 31, 2006 by Josh Greenan

Mark W
Shit George, doesn't sound great. In a way I'm kind of glad that you've seen the effects of this though, just 'cos of some of your posts in SM Chat where you said you were gonna go off for a quick rag around in your car to work off some anger. I'm not getting preachy or anything, but it'd be shit if we got word through of you killing yourself in your car 'cos you were pissed off about something, so hopefully you'll be a safer "Ladykiller" (Steve Heatsink's name for you, not mine ).I hope you and Ami get better super quick, both physically and mentally
poopipe
cunting bad luck there, I'm not going to join in the with the irresponsible lecture. We all take risks on our bikes like your friend did with the car and sometimes either the machinery or fate lets you down - the only real difference with the car is the other people involved. It's definitely good news you're all alive after that cos even through the blurry pic you can tell there was plenty of damage done there.you can add me to the list of people that hopes the lady gets sorted soon - broken wrists aren't funny in the slightest and i don't suppose getting squashed in a car makes it any easier to deal with.anyway. get well soon n stuff.
