The trialsin shop tells me that ALL echo/zoo/gu/adamant/deng stock bikes will have 116mm (mod) spacing.

So every stock bike coming from deng will only accept a mod hub. So no kinds, profiles, hopes and throw away any hub you have on your stock bike right now, unless...

EVERYONE WHO THINKS ITS A GAY IDEA EMAILS HIM AND TELLS HIM SO

Profile BMX hub, King bmx, new echo hub?

I don't see the problem, the majority of stock riders run SS anyway and moan about not having horizontal dropouts. So whys everyone kicking up a fuss? If you dont like it, Don't buy it, preety simple to me.

Frames look nice anyway, will be better to see the production model or a decently rendered CAD version.

So it looks like in dengs eyes, that stock bikes should all become mod bikes with bigger wheels. No mech hangers (needed for some comps remember), horizontal dropouts, bb rise, and now a mod hub rear triangle spacing.

The sad thing is the geometry sounds great... nice long wheelbase and medium bb rise which is comeplemented with short chainstays.

I suppose from an strength perspective, the 116mm hub size would mean that theoretically the axle is stronger than a standard 135mm axle.

That "Comps = gears" thing is probably going to be void by '07 anyway. For UCI comps you can run singlespeed, so it's probably only a matter of time 'til BIU actually drags itself into the 21st century and joins in with the singlespeed allowance.

Found this thread on observedtrials...

oh my f**king god. all 2007 deng frames will have 116mm rear hub spacing + horizontal dropouts. horizontal dropouts are good, but 116mm spacing which reduces the hub choice to his crap or a bmx king is well, crap.

and now as one man all of us should write him at deng@echobike.com to let him know that he is an idiot and should change the lineup when he still can.

Might as well have changed the topic title to suit the current discussion...

I have doubts that snail cams can actually hold a 26" wheel firmly in place. I have seen and heard of 26" wheels to sometimes shift around in horizontal dropouts because the larger rim gives more leverage for the wheel to move about. Maybe one solution is to use a monstrously strong chain tug and cut out chunks of it to fit the CNC dropouts. Though I ride mod, I don't think its too great an idea, maybe Deng should make 2 options available: vertical or horizontal dropout... (courtesy of adrian jordan).

Or we just all email Deng to stay with vertical. Or... maybe whoever knows the Zoo and Adamant team riders can ask them if it was their idea to have horizontal dropouts for stock?

All standard mod spacing for a rear hub is 116mm, it allows to snail cams/chain tugs to be fitted inside the frame aswell.

Or..Is the 116mm for stock frames aswell..???

It's for both I think.

Will I still be able to run my King BMX? or is that different spacing? :S

I'm sure it's the same.

It doesn't limit you to one of his hubs. You could use a King BMX hub, you could use a Profile BMX hub (which are 114mm, btw, not the usual mod 110mm).

Either way, everyone's crying about it meaning you have to use "Shit" drivetrain components, but hold on for just a sec - mods have always used BMX-y hub spacing, and people have good drivetrains on mods, so calm down already...

I'd have thought that having a wide hub so you had a more stable wheel would've been better, but evidently he's not down with it. Maybe they just decided to follow 24seven's lead? :P

THREAD MERGE TIME YAY

i certainly didnt. but im all for hangerless design. it might turn out to be good. it works on jump bikes. why not here. yes i know the different stress's and riding types. i quite like the look of it all other than the shitty mod spacing.

which no-one reccomended at all.

ALSO he has just brought out 135mm spaced rear stock hubs,. silly dengo

I always thought spline + lockring fitted freewheels would make a 1000% more sense. One day maybe my dream will come true :-

Damn, you merged the topics together just at the same time I was about to post my post :P, retype it...

For the fixed rear hubs and possibly future crankarms, you won't be able to use screw-on freewheels such as ACS, ENO, Try-All, Tensile, etc.. Also, I bet anything that the lockring+splines will be mangled by people. (more like, Profile Racing's lockring ;) )

Let's hope that Deng has learnt his lesson, and has started to make threads that don't strip like 123.
