Best Freeride/fast Xc Frame

My knowledge of freeride and cross country frames has completely dessipated over the last couple of years

Basically, my bro is willing to spend up to about £400 on a frame, it will obviously be second hand and he wants a full susser

I was thinking maybe a kona stinky or king kikapu off the bay?

Any suggestions would be real good, and if you could recommend any shocks, forks, and cranks too that would be great...

If anyone has a freeride bike could they give me the spec of give me a link to a site with specs or something?

Thanks very much, Nathan :)

Well freeride bikes and XC bikes are comletly different usually and finding one that'll do both is a bit tricky

to be honest Id get a freeride bike and use it for XC because itd be stronger and able to take anything. As for choices maybe try some santa cruz's or Orange?

Sorry if thats useless, ive just woken up

try iron horse as well. when i worked in a bike shop we stocked iron horse. the pivot works in a superior manner to any other full susser, so is perfect up-hill and perfect dh. So have a look at their range. some of them have longer travel. but ride up-hill like a hardtail.

^Just a quick look on Chainreactioncycles found that. Bit over though.^

If he has only £400, look at a second hand Orange Patriot or Sub 5.

He has much more than 400, but I used it as an estimate because he said "I don't want to spend too much"...

That club roost looks great, but will look around on ebay etc for a patriot too...

Do you know if the kona stinky's are any good?

Cheers for everyone's feedback, Nathan

Additional: What I meant by a cross between XC and freeride was a sort of hardtail/streety frame but with a shock... That's what he's after. If no-one else knows what I'm on about, just ignore me :D:P

Spesh enduro sounds about right, although i'm pretty sure you won't get one for the budget.

agreed :)

awesome for freeride/dh, shite for xc though.....proper heffas, i had 1 and it was awesome fun, but its got far too much travel for what it sounds like your bro is doing

I agree, an Enduro would probably be just what you are looking for. Specialized churn out some very good bikes.
