Big_oll
Hi, i'm chainging my front chainring so need a new rear sprocket. I've been looking at a cassette and have noticed all the cogs are pinned together, i could either knock these pins out or if that fails spark erode them out, would using one of these sprockets be suitable?Has anyone ever done it? Luke Rainbird
Yes, this is possible, although being in a cassette the width of the cog will be a little thinner than usual, causing it to dig into the freehub body when you ride. Not really too much of a problem but a little more destructive that's all.You can pick up a DX cog for about £3.50 (sorry I don't have a link I can give to you right now) or something similar if you wish, which will have a slightly wider base resulting in less pressure to the freehub, but not essential. munch8987
Hey mate, Yeah this is possible, do exactly as 'leedstrials' says and all will go well. I had to do this on my cassette as the chainline was well off and now have a pyramid formation cassette, works perfect thoughI have heard of a company who do make carbon cassette's, so you can run single speed, save weight and still be able to participate in comps, but cant remember for the life of me the name of the companyThink they were quite pricey tooBen Edited July 26, 2006 by munch8987
durkie
you can also drill out the pins easy enough. less destruction.

ramps
I had a cassette riveted together, i just ground the tops of the rivets off sorted. Or as previously said it will be allen keyed together.
