philking
Basically to put it simply the newer generation of frames have longer wheelbase, higher bb's and are competition orientated with the build aswell - by this i mean lighter parts and flat bars instead of beefy risers and sofa seats. A company that would be characteristic of this style of bike would be koxx - Light, experimental, no seats, high bb's, long, low, and silver. The old "skool" bikes have a shorter wheelbase no bb rise and are often made out of steel. They look more like conventional bikes and often have seats, they are usually used for street riding and take many influences from BMX. Basically there is a rivalry between the styles and sometimes you see a crossover where a rider rides street on a more 'comp geometery' frame, or in other cases there is some guy at a comp riding a streety looking leeson. Basically its whatever works for you. Generally the more 'new skool' frames are more popular, although there is some clear shift to people jumping on the 'retro bikes' bandwagon.Of course there are companies that take the best of both worlds and combine them, Ashton for example, failry short wheelbase by these days standards, but some evident bb rise, also a very modern look (not just like a normal bike) but the seat has been adapted so it is still there for those who want it. The justice can be and is used on both street and natural.Sorry thats a kind of unstructured answer, but the rest of the replies were sh*tter Edited July 26, 2006 by philking
