Clownbike
Hey,I've always wanted a hydropack and now i have a lil money i thought i may satisfy the urge .Which Hydropack would you recommend. Below is a list of the functions i would like the bag to feature;1) Carry a helmet2) Minimum of 1.5 litres3) Have some room for a few tools - usual spoke key, allen keys etc (maybe a few larger tools too)4) Preferably in black 5)Price range of around £35I would idealy like the bag to hold my helmet on the outside, is this possible with most hydropacks as they have those bungee straps.I am not fussed by brand names e.g. Camelback, but i hope they would be a fairly established company. So far i've looked on Wiggle, Halfords , ebay .....and still not so sure about which one i should get, the main problem is the helmet!!!!!ThanksNeil Edited July 27, 2006 by Clownbike

Todge
They are quite handy. I tend to use mine more for xc then when trials riding, as i cant fit a dv cam in it, but i take the bladder out and put it in my bigger bag. I have a Camelback Rocket, can hold 2 litres, fits most tools in, sounds like it fits your needs well. It doesnt have exterior bungees, but i just do the helmet buckle up around one of the zip, which works alright.Got mine from Wiggle in a sale, paid around £30 - £40, cant remember now. Clownbike
You think it's worth it Smo? I'll only drink water as thats all i really like to drink. Didn't tank ride with one, did he get an infection? If it's just a case of putting my hand in and clean with soapy water or summin i'm cool with that. Are they hard to clean, do i actually need their cleaning kit?Neil EDIT: Thanks Todge, i'm looking now Did you havw problems with cleaning? Didn'y your helmet move/rattle around? Matthew_Gibson
I got one from Aldi, I think. 2 litres of water. There is a part the you can put things like a pump, inner tube and all that in. It’s not huge, but its big enough. 2 straps, one around the waste and on at the chest. It’s a good lil bag! It only cost about £8Or camelback Mule, any of them are good, Bit pricey though Matt! Clownbike
I think i'm liking the KONA one on Wiggle guys. It does look pretty simple to clip my helmet on those bungee straps rather than putting them inside the bungee straps.Bit of a bargain too
Max Quinn
There's a good range on chainreaction aswell. Might be worth checking there. This one for example.Or you could just by the actual reservoir and funnel and put it in a normal bag?
nmt_oli
Mines a halfords bikehut own brand one, £40 get you a lot. it has a hydropack section, with 2 litre resevoir, bungee cords and various small pockets, enough for phone, keys, small lock, multi tool ect. But it also comes with a sizeable rucksack with its own straps that can zip too it, giving you a 2 litre thingy and a LOAD of space. i use it for getting too form work in full mode, and just as the hydropack for xc/ trials. is great. Waynio
someone has mentioned the Camelback Mule spot on, the helmet carry is not a problem "hook" or clip it with its straps to the top or to the "back" of the ruck sack, iv got a bag similar to a Mule and i strap my helmet to the back of it, had to carry it from Santander Airport to Leeds station last night and its pretty kool, it usually starts a few convo's with other bikers or people who are interested in bikes too.Waynio...............................a mule is about £60 other options would be a "Slipstream" camelback again @ £34.99 the Mule @ £59.99 is called a "MTB100" thats the new one a normal Mule is £69.99 iv just looked in the new catalogue. Mark W
Got an e-mail from Chainreaction today saying they've got a "hydration pack" sale on, so may be worth checking it out. Some decent savings on some of the '06 Camelbaks.e.g. http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models....p;ModelID=10654

Si-man
Make sure you wash the bloody thing regularly Neil - you can get some damned nasty bacterial infections from those things. warm water mixed with bleach, then warm water with bi carb, rinse again, leave to dry (make sure the bag doesnt stick together) done I advise you to buy a brush set (around £10)
Tomm
You can get a 1.5l bladder and tube for £15, although the brand escapes me. And just stick that in any old bag. The Camelback bags always seemed a bit expensive to me.

Clownbike
EwwwwwwwI thought i should point out to people i had my bag nicked from 10m away (it was round a corner) from me, otherwise i would have just got a bladder and tube! Lil shits!I think i like the idea of a smallish bag, but i would be able to clip my helmet to the outside. Thanks for all the ideas/info, been really helpful! Joe_Elding
chainreactionCRC are doing a promotion type thing for these at the mo,I'd reccomend that onecomes with a helmet strap, and a few pockets for tools etc, along with a 2.0l bladder. My brother uses it and hasnt had any problems with it. but make sure you keep it clean, I know its been said but seriously, my bro caught an infection where he left squash in it for a few days and then didn't clean it out and just kept using it, he had to sleep in the bathroom to stop him shitting his pants
