Greetings
I need to purchase a memory card Looking for something which will be at least 4gb. Needs to be fast and reliable. I'd rather have something with a shorter warranty which won't brake down than a cheap card with lifetime warranty which will loose all my data but will be replaced. This is going to be used in a PDA so it needs to be fairly quick. I've been looking around for these cards but I don't understand their parameters. Some are "x133", "x150", they also mention other things which I don't understand and therefore can't make the right choice. Also, which manufacturers' cards should I not buy? Price is not an issue here but I'd rather not exceed 100 pounds.

Howard Hughes
If I were you, I'd buy either four 1gb cards or two 2gb cards: simply because - if your 4gb card messes up, you are going to loose 4gb worth or images (assuming this is for a camera), but if you have a 1gb card and it screws you over, you only loose 1gb's worth - and the other 3 will be fine.I personally don't use anything over 1gb for that very reason. As for makes, you can't really go wrong with Sandisk or Lexar card's. Greetings
Thanks for the replies so far. Have you heard of Goodram? I think I'll go for 2x2gb as you said. Will keep maps and documents on one card and media on the other. And as I wrote earlier, this is going to be for a pda. Cheers Inur Baby! Monkey
I have a Transcend 150x 2gb SD card for my camera, bought from http://www.offtek.co.uk and the only problem I have with it is that there is TOO MUCH room, for a camera. I don't often empty my card, but now when it comes to that point I have 2GB to think of... I don't know of this will bother you.I've not had any problems with that brand so far (but I have only bought five of the cards) Edited July 25, 2006 by Monkey
Danny
If your after a lifetime warranty look no further than http://www.crucial.com/uk/store/listmodule...ecure%20DigitalAs for speeds....How is the X speed calculated? The speed rating system used for flash is based on the rating system used in the optical drive industry. A data transfer rate of 1X means that the product can transfer data at 150 kilobytes per second (KB/s).So what would be the read/write speed of a 40X card or UFD be in megabytes (MB) per second?40 x 150KBps = 6000KB/s or 6MB/s
