IOLO
iv noticed recently that i enjoy the smallest moves as much as the proper trials moves.they are REALLY small super feel good moves.wondered if anyone else got them ?? or might even kno what im on about. !for example...say iv just tapped a good size wall... (10" - 60" depending on who you are)il be dam pleased about it. but ..after landing on top and locking my brake, i may be able to let it off and manuel about 2" very slowly by pumping my legs. This little super flowing manuel feels just as good as completing the tap !!OR if im gonna do a BIG gap up to front then back between 2 rocks. im VERY pleased iv made the gap. but its the 4mm high ramp shaped bit of the rock that flicked my front wheel upward that felt best !ALSO roll backs on natural, rather that turning round on a sloped rock, just going brake less backwards into a 90 or 180 roll back. even if i fly off the rock over the bars afterwards, its fucl<in ACE !is this the total opposite of inch counting ??there is no measure for these little things that make me feel so flowing and not just 100% in touch with my bike, BUT more like its actually a part of me that grew there . LOLjust wondered if other people knew what i meant..now Chat !loliolo.x

Burton
I love mini moves as well, like when there are sloped rocks/walls and you try to wheelswap up the face of them, its well fun!I'm loving 180's up stuff a lot now, just need to play ont rails
IOLO
i think turning a very tight corner without hopping , just by rolling is a VERY important one !!love it.
Simpson
is it just me who LOVES riding round an round in tight as possible circles on your bike......... i call it happy time!!!
mods
yea they are the sort of moves that disstinguish (sp) riders from others. It's not doin the moves but doing them with style.
poopipe
is it just me who LOVES riding round an round in tight as possible circles on your bike......... i call it happy time!!! nope. im totally with you on that one. its even more fun on a bmx cos it rolls faster and you can lean the bugger right over till your pegs catch on the ground. Brian Bleech
totally know what you mean dude! just like little thins like balance on the back wheel and instead or taking a set up hop you take a little manual or something and your more pleased with that than the gap or sidehop... An_toin3
Yeah I love that too !, I think I spent 1hour on a curb the other day doing small move but fun moveOr If I find a "big" line, I try to make it more intersting like, little manual then do the move, etc ! Matt Staples
i know exactly what you mean. my riding has changed so much from my 'inch counting' days. i only really ride stuff that i can do smooth and with style.edit: 45'' tap with obscene levels of style > 60'' tap just Edited July 22, 2006 by Matt Staples
TrashZen
totally agreeThat's all the subtlety and chill out (ZEN) experience of trials I reckon...That's why nothing beats natural and all the fine tuning that goes with it Instant feel good factor, without the hit or miss risk factor of big moves
nafan
Know what you mean too, one thing I like is popping my front end up as I roll up to something (using a brick or slope or something) then locking my back brake and lurching a bit...I have also seen Jon Shrewsbury do a big sidehop then do a tiny little bunnyhop (literally about half an inch), which I think he did to correct his balance, but it just looks great! Greetings
i know exactly what you mean. my riding has changed so much from my 'inch counting' days. i only really ride stuff that i can do smooth and with style. That is too true. These tiny moves make you feel great but the people who watch you ride can't see them. It's more of a personal thing really. I much prefer to tap to manual (even a short one) a lower wall than to tap a high wall almost exceeding my limits and manage it. I also like reducing the amount of correction hops in my riding - another thing that somebody watching you won't realize. But it's the feeling you've done something smoothly that matters. Janson
im with inur and staples on this, rather big and smooth than massive and rough/sketch.. and yeah, the small stuff is fun.

Watch the first bit of my 4th vid Yeah I much prefer to try do 180 endo's on curbs at the mo then learn to hook or tap properly. I love trying switzerland squeakers too, infact im going to try now!But yeah small moves are ace
N.Wood
Agreed I have some bits and bobs in my back garden for trials, and the obstacles promote this kind of riding because i don't have access to huge cotton reels and such.So doing a really technical line over two 1 foot high concrete blocks is more rewarding than doing a huge gap drop to harsh landing, a-la those 2 riders who i really love so much and have been sponsored by Zoo in their riding careers. Ahem.
CBProductions
aran dude nice topic! Me an a mate have found this lil curb run with a lil tabletop and we go there and session it up with no pressure to do big moves or get certain things right. Just riding , just enjoying myself and so what I can't do a huge sidehop or a huge tap. I'm still having shed loads of fun on my bike. Does anyone think we have concentrated too much on those inch moves rather then having fun?

Found some cool rocks about 4 - 6 foot high and sloped at Backcown a couple weeks ago. It was the most fun ever just riding fast at them and kicking up them. And also using smaller sloped rocks to kick up onto bigger ones

Waynio
id rather ride a tech natural section or move than a street move at the mo, i think if i went street riding i wouldnt know where to start.id prefer to go out and balance for half an hour and prop myself up against something and practise body position over the wheel and centre of the bike, and link that in with setting up for things, like mike has said, not to hop hop hop hop all the time, do something, into balance, into next move into balance into another move, trials nower days is defined by style, there is so much of it and so many people have alot of it, and everyones style is positive to themselves and soinfluential in EVERYONES riding, its not just the good riders that are good, the new riders are good with their own way of doing things.going back to this time last year EVERYONE was "WOW i can sidehop 55inch" or "i can tap 63inch" its like "oh wow, im off out to do better than that" and bosh your leg on your bars all night and still not do it, id rather go out and DO. go out have a ride, meet up with friends have a good chat and a laugh and prat about on the simple things.too many kids nower days jump in at the deep end and try and gap 8ft static and sidehop 56 inch before they can even balance!!! and thats what the funny thing is, set them up the simplest of natural lines and they cant do it, cant ride over a simple shaped rock as they dont know how it feels or what feels correct. give them a gap to jump across n they would rather do that than "find" "try" a different line at it.i tell you whats hard that i enjoy trying, front wheel a foot or two lower than the rear, rear on the sharp(ish) edge of a rock and pulling up and pressurising the pedals and going either upto front wheel then wheel swop to back or straight to back. so hard yet looks tech and rad.Waynio..............................when i say above "lads are trying big gaps and sidehops" its not ALL people it was an example of what some people do. specially some of the lads round where i live, but to me, it makes me happy when one of the lads does something hes wanted to do for ages or nails a tech line!!!! mucho funno.
