Magura Problems

When i pull the leaver, the pads go inwards fine, and they basicly don't come back, it takes about 3 seconds. Just after the brake is pulled, i can move the blade back and forth and it's just loose, not pushing any fluid though at all, and you can actually feel it gradually return, becuase the 'loose' movement of the blade gets less and less.

It does just seem to be one brake cylindar as far as i can tell.

So i took it off and bled it (for the first time in 3 years) with water. Feels loads better, but still a really really slow return, maybe even slower than befor.

Any ideas? I've tried all the obvious stuff, lubricating oil on the cylindars, but not the leaver cylindar. Don't really want to start taking them to bits if i can help it.

Also, i run my brake with only a tiny amount of TPA on, so both pads prety much fully retract.

Yeah, i was stood there about 15 mins pushing water through the system and rattling the cable, emptying all the water out of the sink, and re-filling it, and pushing more water back though. :D

That's not really enough... Try attaching a track pump or air line to the bleed hole on the slave cylinder, and removing the bleed screw from the lever... you'll be amazed at how much gunk comes out ^_^

very true, i thought once everything came out the system but i decided to make sure by gettting a straw and blowing it through the cylinders and sooooooooo much black crap came out the other end.

Humm it's sort of sorted it's self out now, i took the maggie and off and just pulled the leaver, covering each side so each one got a full extension. Mind you i did this befor and it didn't work. But there we go.

Thanks anyway (Y):D

Yeh i had the exact same problem with mine today it wasnt returning properly, i also did the same thing after messing about with the brake and the lever for a bit and its sorted itself out pretty much, still feels a little bit sluggish though.

heat affecting the seals per chance?

yeh thats what i thought first of all considering the crazy temperature yesterday/today and the fact it was in the shed in my garden, i just didnt know what parts heat will effect on the brake. Although i took it inside whilst i was trying to sort it out so that couldve helped, so ive decided to leave it inside for now.

thats wierd, because my v brake has been fine in this heat  how about yours, paul?

ye ye..shut up :P

try fat mudsons, his soudns as though its pretty pukka (Y)

Depends how much of a ride you get before it's gotta be tweaked again

If only V-brakes didn't feel like shit, maybe they'd be worth trying. The way the levers pivot just feels wanky to me having been using Maguras for so long, plus I think I'd pretty much always rather have a Magura if it's sketchy conditions. If it's wet you can just squeeze harder, but with V's it just seems to take some of your extra burly-ness out through cable stretch (no matter what cable you use, you still get some, so don't try and tell me you won't ;)). Not having to f**k around with springs is also joyous, eh Mat ;)

Funnily enough, I've never kicked my Magura on once before, ever? Can't say the same about V-brakes though unfortunately :( Before any of you get all bitchy, I used V's for 2 years, but I just got fed up of dicking around with them so much. They seem to take more maintainance than Maguras, especially in the whole cable and setup department, but kicking arms just pisses me off royally, not to mention the fact that the noodle + cross-over cable seems to rub on tyres pretty damn easily...

Can't remember what my V's were like but I do remember when I got my Maguras they were a million times better! I wouldn't mind trying a good set of V's with all the decent pads and that you can get now though, just so I can say I've tried both and X are best!

Of course when it comes to looks I've never seen a set of V's that looked half as good as a set of Magura's, they just look the business IMO!
