well, i basically need some decent pads really then.

im running a anodized black primo hula hoop on the rear with some black pads that you get standard with some brake(dont know which ones they are) but i dont have enough money to buy new ones unless somebody want to be v kind and give me some dece ones for free? :D

very nice tensioner on there too (Y)

Until you try and icepick on that side :P

On a black rim, you're pretty much f**ked either way, unless you get some more trials orientated pads, and even then they may end up being a bit grabby for BMX. Just try and find a cheap chrome rim second hand or splash out on a new one and your brake will instantly be a load better (Y)

Bearing in mind that almost every BMXer around runs chrome rims 'cos they're so much better than alu rims, are you absolutely positive you hadn't contaminated your pads or something? Regular black pads are shit no matter what, in fairness, so maybe just get a chrome rim and V-flies and be on your way?

Did you take the glaze off them? Equally, were you running a shitload of spring tension or not much? Long/short straddle? All of these generally have a pretty big impact on how well pads work on BMXs, but it just seems weird you couldn't get them to work on a chrome rim, seeing as chrome has way, way better braking properties than the alloy rims...

Generally, more tension = worse brake 'cos you've got to pull through it to get the pads to hit the rim, so it means you have to pull harder. If you have to pull less, you're putting more effort into the pads stopping the rim, not just getting them to the rim (Y)

But yeah, anything other than stock pads should be fine...

once you have had chrome, you never go back, it really is the best surface for dry conditions! really does sound like you havent set your u brake up properly though, i find theres a pretty fine line between getting it spot on and making it feel crap

what about getting some heatsink v backings and then whacking some maggy pad material in them?

alright, i have decided to get some of these new bt maggy pad adapters.

softer compound good for anodised smooth?

steve.

noooooo cos they will make the pads really wide, and you wont ever get them to fit in cos there wont be enough space between the brake and the rim

get some heatsink backings and whatever pad filling you like, heatsink red/coust material seems to be popular (Y)

take out some spacers and put them on the other side?

also, let the brake calipers out a bit, it will be fine...it always is :ermm:

steve.

you need the spacers either side to get the pad to hit flat on the rim, dont skip them

when the brake is pulled to stop, ideally the tabs of metal that the pads bolt through, need to be parallel to the rim, so by having them more spaced out, you make the brake work less efficiently, also you would be more likely to catch the brake with your foot

Dunno if it's been said before...

But someone told me that you can just run the Evo mounts upside down so that they fit on the 'U' brake mounts? :ermm:

im still trying to figure that 1 out.....i have a set of evo mounts in front of me, the diatmeter of the slot doesnt change? and seeing as u brake lugs are thicker than v brake lugs, how the hell does one just fit on?
