winky1441
hi i bought a zona zip frame off of www.supercycles.co.uk and i am wondering if it is close to the t-mag in the onza range. thanks James.
Mark W
It's the second best Onza frame I've ridden. It's a better frame than it's price-tag suggests. They're making very, very little on it so they can pass on the benefits to people who buy it, so you're getting a top quality frame (with shit stickers ) for a very small price-tag. Lawnmowerman
It's a Zona. Lower priced brand of Onza.
winky1441
It's a Zona. Lower priced brand of Onza.I'm guessing it is because if u switch the letters about a bit, hey presto we have onza! haha
Mark W
There's a bit more to it than that Basically, they wanted to make the same frames other companies were making and sell them on cheaper, pretty much. They wanted to do this without tarnishing the Onza name, it seems, so they made up "Zona" (also means 'section' in Spanish I guess...), and sell their copied frames (Zip = Python, Zenith = XTP 26") under this one. There's no team, there's no extensive R&D ('cos they're just copies), and there's virtually no profit margin (Which is why not many mail orders stock the frames 'cos there's no point in them selling something they'll hardly make a profit from), so it means the customer gets a better deal
JT!
Still dosn't explain the shittest stickers. Ever.
Mark W
The shit stickers a.k.a. the reason hardly any of them sold. When people are actually saying on public forums and to other riders "I wouldn't buy one just 'cos of the stickers", it would kinda suggest it may be the time to get them to change them. They're a great product, but people just don't give a shit 'cos Zona sounds sketchy, and the look of the frames is a bit wank. Shame really, but there we go... Dan6061
Shit stickers is the reason mine got sprayed. And the icky grey colour. I love my Zona. I like your style...buy it, then ask about it.
matt rushton
I've got a zona, it rides very well. So what if the stickers are not good looking who cares if it rides like you want it to then why care if it has crap stickers or bad looking paint? yoyoyo
Basically, they wanted to make the same frames other companies were making and sell them on cheaper, pretty much. But aren't they already doing that with the T-rex.
Mark W
I've got a zona, it rides very well. So what if the stickers are not good looking who cares if it rides like you want it to then why care if it has crap stickers or bad looking paint? In business though, it does matter. Trials is all about looks, in terms of people buying products. That's why coloured rims (even horrible, gash, terrible looking fluorescent rims ), cranks, brake clamps, etc. all sell so well, because people care what they look like. Therefore, if your product doesn't look great, people aren't going to buy it as much. The Zip is a great frame and you're getting a lot of frame for you money - they've got virtually no profit margin on it - but people aren't buying it simply because it's looks match it's price; cheap. If it looked better, I'm almost certain they'd have sold more. Even though it's not going to go down in trials history as one of the greatest frames ever, at least it's had a great, great effect in another area - Deng's prices plummeted as soon as it came out and started stealing all the Python's sales (despite one having nice, short stays and a nice overall feel and one feeling like a barge. No prizes for guessing which ), so he dropped the prices of all of his frames by about £100, which is great. If only Koxx would follow suit frame-wize the t-pro is much nicer to ride than the zona IMO and the t-mag is just wrong to ride, they feel horrible IMO. Just from my experiences, I found the Zip to ride a lot nicer than the T-Pro. I went from a T-Pro to a T-Lite Long to a T-Pro to a Zip, and it just felt a lot better and made me feel a lot more confident. It felt similar to a T-Pro due to the higher BB, and as the back end's the safe medium length it feels nice on the back wheel, but 'cos of the higher BB for any moves to front wheel and any moves on the back wheel, it just felt much more stable and in control to me. The way that you get all the benefits of a long bike but the feel of a short one was pretty nice (plus I liked how easy it is to 360 hop and manual ). To each their own though But aren't they already doing that with the T-rex. That was from over a year before the Zips came out, plus the T-Rex was slightly modified which, arguably, made it better. The internal headtube it comes with and the finish actually made it cost more to produce than the Pitbull, but yeah, either way, the T-Pro and the T-Rex came out but were slightly modified, but the Zonas are just totally different in that they're just direct copies, bought from the factory (not to mention the different sorta corporate policy with Zona and different warranties and so on). Lawnmowerman
No because the frames are just picked out of a catalogue in the factory.
Mark W
Not always. I think the Pitbulls and Pythons were originally just basic, rudimentary copies of the Coustellier frames that the Coust brothers did actually design, then the factory that made the Pythons/Pitbulls allowed the frame designs to be bought by other people. I have a feeling it's usually fleshed out between the factory and the original manufacturer as to when they're going to let other people use their designs, hence it being that the T-Rex is a copy of the '04 Pitbull, and came out as they released the CNC'd side-plate Pitbull meaning the T-Rex was out of date.
