Internal Headset Is Creeking!

Recommended Posts

Hey,

My internal onza headset is creeking, the noice is coming from the bottom of the headset, everytime i put a downwards pressure on my handle bars, it creeks  . What has happened? what will need replacing?

If it is just the bottom bearing then, How do i remove the old one, then refit the new one?

Cheers nafan (Y)

What bars are you using? If they're Zoo bars then they always creak when more pressure is applied onto the bars, because of the finish they have on them.Just check all the front of your bike is tight, it can be a few different things that creak.

Hope this has helped :)

get a new one or put new bearings in, thats what i did, well actually i didn't its what i planned to do, i took it out re greased it spun it round slightly and problem solved ( temporarily) isn't that hard take half hour or so. Get a new headset though if you have the cash for one. Onza's eh, who'd have 'em?

Problem is with Onza headsets is they run open bearings rather and sealed, so the bearings themselves take the abuse unlike the casing of the sealed ones.

Aheadset upgrade, its about £25 and a wise investment, very robust compared to the Onza standard one. Its definatly a lacking market that Onza fail to act on. We have the choice of about 2 internal headsets compared to about 10 externals. Why don't Onza make they're frame external? Althought he new Zenth (or whatever its called) has external doesn't it?

I think they're stronger than external ones. There's a lot more support for the bearing cup jibbers. The headtubes probably have to be made to higher standards though or that theory will go to shit.

edit..

I was going to shut up about headsets
