Dan6061
I've had those.I stripped the pedal threads, on the crank arm, and my V8 with those. And partially stripped the threads for the crank remover tool.Pretty good cranks though... Mark W
I don't understand Deng's thought process at times... "Hmm, a lot of our cranks are stripping. Maybe we should add some sort of helicoil system."*Adds helicoil... ...1 year later*"Hmm, maybe I should take that helicoil system off."Cranks start stripping."Hmm, a lot of our cranks are stripping. Maybe I should make another 4 brands and allow people the choice of 5 different shapes of crank arm and 5 different colours."
GuyJames
If you shop around you can buy those cranks for less at other sites. Tarty may have an incredible track record but isn't always best on prices.

AdamR28
I don't understand Deng's thought process at times... "Hmm, a lot of our cranks are stripping. Maybe I should make another 4 brands and allow people the choice of 5 different shapes of crank arm and 5 different colours."The old style silver cranks were known to have poor threads, and the extra insert was designed to cure this. The black cranks are much better, we've not had a single set back. You'll be doing very well to strip any of the threads of the sprocket/freewheel and pedals are fitted correctly and kept tight. If a warranty case did arise though, you can be sure that a shop charging full RRP for the part will be much more inclined to replace them The new CNC machined cranks have never had a problem, in any of the brands. We recommend the 170mm for stock bikes, or tall mod riders with plenty of BB clearance. 160s are more suited to shorter riders on mod bikes.Adam
munkee
The ones i got 2nd hand have been perfect for me had them for 6 months now with no trouble.
mods
i think the new ones have a separate thread if you get me, that has been pressed in the holes in the cranks.. i may be completely wrong. obviously if this is true then the metal that the thread is will be a lot stronger. AdamR28
Ensure the crank puller is tightened into the cranks with a spanner before trying to remove them - you'll never strip a crank extractor thread ever again (As long as you put it in straight!)A lot of people just put them in finger tight, but that's not enough - I've even seen steel cranks stripped when the tool isn't fitted right! Joe_Elding
I've heard quite a few people had problems with this crankset. Joe Elding's one kept coming loose on his BB due to worn splines I think.. Phil Nobes stripped out his pedal thread randomly not long after purchasing... and several Chinese riders over where I'm staying currently have ruined this crankset pretty easy too...But there are still loads of people who've had no problems with this crankset. I guess its just hard luck if you muck yours up. Just copper grease the threads, for starters Meh, Zhi cranks ***.I like to move it move itZhi cranks are exact;y the same as these cramks anyway? just cos your little china mates like them doesnt mean there good. Alex.loves.boys
its because all of these people who ride in china are about my height and my weight if not light (5'4, and 9 stone)there probaly ;lighter than me) and don't anyone even think about saying i'm being racist. becuase i'm not) oh yeah btw got the cranks everythings gone on fine, they seem to be coming loose a bit so i'm gunna get some one with some more strength to tighten em thanks for all your help lads
Sponge
No one wants Echo rims or forged cranks over in China, and a few of them are rather aggressive at riding. Zhi seems to be really popular as the riders say its better than Echo in most cases, such as long-life-ed-ness plus Zhi cranks are more similar to the older Echo silver cranks, except this time, Zhi threads dont strip like blades of grass Edited July 22, 2006 by Sponge
Egg Fried Rice
my black echo cranks FFW stripped after roughly about 8 months but they are well worth buying and are good cranks.JK
MikeCottTrials
Joe, you did tell me that the reason your cranks kept coming loose was because "I think the splines were worn".No one wants Echo rims or forged cranks over in China, and a few of them are rather aggressive at riding. Zhi seems to be really popular as the riders say its better than Echo in most cases, such as long-life-ed-ness plus Zhi cranks are more similar to the older Echo silver cranks, except this time, Zhi threads dont strip like blades of grass me thinks biased might be coming into play
