Recommended Posts

for all you mod gu riders out there and people who have had gus or no what pads are good help me please.hi people i'm having problems with my gu back brake.I've tryed different pads and different grinds but no of them work to well so... i wanted you guys to help me find some decent pads which will work in a 20" gu and what grind to run them on.At the moment I've got koxx greens on a light grind but i want some thing better cause its not the best of brakes,I've try diffent pads such as :plaz.koxx greens, magic pads, koxx blues.i'm wanting to try the zoos and the short cousts,I've got a brand new onza hog rim sitting in my room gathering dust and i'm waiting till i get some decent pads what work and then ill put it on so i can start from fresh! So please can you help or give me some advice to what pads to get on what grind and if so what grinding tecnique could use witch would make it better, i most appreciate the help given.

cheers danny (Y)

Then why do people run them on zoo pythons ? :S

Dan.

Cos the frames flex. When i press my brake you can see the mounts moving out at least 4 mm.

I`ve got an 05 though , think they stiffend them up abit on the 06 but still ....

well dan, since you ride comps... zoo pads in the wet are a no go. as you'v said you want some coustpads, i'd say buy the coust-sinks in the metal backings, get the lite green ones because there the dogs danglies (Y)

These

Them metal backings rip the little nipple's of your pods, do not buy.

Sorry i'm probs being thickle here but what is the exact problem?

No bite

Slipping

Spongeyness

What exaclty?

Have you tried the follwoing-

Bleeidng your brake

Change of grinding disc, say use a metal cutting, my brakes worked tons better with this

Check you 4 bolt moutns are not work where the bolt head sits. I had to bodge mine by using 4 spacer off an old chain

The threads in the frame for the bolts are not worn casuing the bolt not to be fully tigtened or fail when under load

One very comen one is the black plastic C ring that goes around the slave. I seen a few without these and some even use the ring pull of milk cartens!! Don;t ask

Just some ideas there.

Alext had issues with all his brakes but i got em working every time so any problems let me know, help where i can mate

These

They aint all that good... yeah they have amazing lock, but they tend to slip when backwheeling a wall...

Dan, get some nice bloox reds (Y)

Im having troubles with the greens myself!

They were amazing the first day i get em, then i got a f**king puncture  and then had to take wheel out to fix it, put it back on and the brake was shit, has been since that day  i hate f**king punctures!!!!!

Is that hose the Hope or magura kit? Magura one leaks as does the Unxe one and the Hope should be mental.

What rim by the way as you haven't said along with grinding disc?

Light grind doesn;t help on the rear!!

Where are you in the uk....i'm really willing to blast this problem away and give you what you want

buy a booster because the gu frame does flex a bit also i found out when my girnd wanst working brilliant sand down the rim a wee bit with sand paper and then use zoo pads, works immense if your still not happy ad a bit of tar.

My 26" GU flexes ALOT. I mean like 5mm on each side. So maybe thats the problem. i run an rb lever, braided hosing, koxx yellows, and soon to have a Gu booster. Works beasty. I would say get a Gu booster just because they are huge and the frame would never flex wth that thing on and just get some coust, koxx reds/yellows, or plaz all with a harsh gring and you should have a brake that will work awsome.

Hope that helps!!!!

Hey.....

Ive got a 20" short gu and my rear brake its really good. I run a rear 06 echo rim on zoo pads with tar, nothing can beat it (Y)

But my freind has the same set up but with a grind and his brake is slighty better, but his pads will run out before mine do so :P
