medwaytrials
Well if you keep your taper cranks tight they will last ages. With isis the bearing tend to go all the time and as does the isis fitting.Taper ***!
Michael Ingle
I tend to trust ISIS more than square taper, mainly because I'd prefer to have a huge spindle which wont snap, and have to replace the barings more often than have fat barings around a skinny axle which could snap. But to be fair, unless you're doing big drops neither should be a problem. The only difference is that you'll have to be more careful with square taper making sure they stay tight.Mike. jay119
I used to use square and had problems now and then, slipping, untightening etc. I run ISIS now and can honestly say I've never had any problems with it in the last year and a half. JT!
I'd never go back to square tapers. ISIS all the way. The external bearing systme is worth every penny too.
hicks
the squares are crap, my onza ones that come with the t-pro undo all the time i have to tighten them like 3/4 times a ride somedays. go with isis
anzo
Agreed with majority. I used to run the Onza Square Taper, they came loose and rounded a bit and just never felt right again.I now run a FSA Plat. Pro bottom bracket on Echo Cranks. I'm about due to replace the lot now, but its been a problem free setup for a hell of a long time. Highly recommeneded.
Saracen Kid
i find isis hard to fit cos all the splines but tapers easy
bob87
i find isis hard to fit cos all the splines but tapers easyThat makes no sense putting in a splined(isis)bottom bracket in is the same as fitting a square tapered bottom bracket in.Go for the square tapered bottom bracket because the isis bottom bracket are easy to wear out.I'm ridding both at the moment and the Isis one just keeps breaking. The bearings start to grind and you try to fix them then you find out that only some can be taken appart without braking the outer locking rings. Otherwise you've got to sit there with a hammer and screwdriver trying to nock the damn things off, its just to much hassle just to regrease the bearings again. My friend has also Snapped one, not sure what it was but might have been an Fsa one, snapped it in half because the bottom bracket thinned out in the middle. Not good.
rambo
the thing with isis is that the axle is so big that the bearings cant be normal size so the put smaller bearings in them but if you don't ride with a freewheel in the front you can buy the isis with bearings on the outside of the bottom bracket like the new echo http://www.echobike.com. the thing with the square axle is that the get rounded very fast if you don't tighten your cranks enuf than you can trow away your bottom bracket because your cranks will not fit any more. and the square axles are smaller so the brake faster than the isis ones.afz. rambo
Dan-Gadd
If you can afford it i would get an isis as all of the higher end cranks are made with isis fittings. I use square taper simply because they are cheaper, but if you do get an square taper don't get the onza one because when i had one the axel bent easily and when i took it out it had pretty much fallen apart i use one of the neco square tapers and it seems to be pretty good so far. I think the best square tapers are neco's and shimanos.Dan
