diamond dave
Hi guys, i've got my T Rex. [attachmentid=5993]Is there any quick & easy upgrades or is it just down to personal preference ??I spent most of the day just riding slow around my back yard, working on my balance....damn that's not easy....... fell off a few times & laughed hard at my stupidity ! Are there any easy tricks i could learn, or should i just work on balance for now ??
Synergy
well you could practice endos and then lifting up the front end after (cradle i know it as but not sure what others call it)just go a long and pull your front break and youll find out how to lean (dnt go to fast )also just track standing( both feed on pedals trying to balance on both wheels by turning your front wheel or balancing by moving your legs in air)
T-BAD
practise balancing with out brakes, for this you'd need to face up a hill to get used to doing it, then practise on flat. also practise pivots, this is using your weight to manuvure your bike and lean to the direction your going, practise going around in circles. practice wheelies too, there fun then learn how to manual. this will gain confidence on the back wheel
Lee Cable
Once you are a bit more confident on your back wheel. Try going out in the road, and trying to hop up a kerb and land on it on your backwheel. Harder than it looks for the first time. Everyone will say that im wrong, and that pedal kicks should be learnt next. I disagree. They take ages to learn properly. I had only just mastered them before i broke my leg. But as recommended in your other thread, go on trashzen. they rock for decent tutorials.and upgrades...are they maguras? get rid of them...v brakes are the way forwards(waits for all the magura lovers to rip the shit outa me..) Mr Motivator
Upgrades;Chris King hubsMaxxis TyresDT swiss or Sapim spokesEcho or Zoo forks, Fatty Rs if you can find someZoo! BarsThomson stemRitchey foam gripsFront disk - avid juicy 7 carbonKoxx bloxx red brake pads for the rear maguraMiddleburn cranks, 16t ti bashKMC kool chain, if you dont have one alreadyCk rear 13t cogBasically, how much money do you have.Don't upgrade anything yet though, you sound fairly new to trials, so your bound to be bashing your bike about a lot and falling off.The first thing you should probably consider upgrading is the rear hub. If you have the money, go for a king, otherwise a hope will do you fine.
ramps
and upgrades...are they maguras? get rid of them...v brakes are the way forwards(waits for all the magura lovers to rip the shit outa me..)And it starts NO NEED TO GET RID OF THE MAGGIES. They are brand new yes? So will be just lovely but you could change the pads and put a grind on the back as if i remember correctly t-rex's come with koolstops. I think gettin your balance is really important at first, it brings confidence in all areas of riding trials or otherwise. Member 1495 seems to think your super rich, those kinds of upgrades should be done over time, no need to do anything yet.
diamond dave
Erm, bear with me here. What do you mean by puting a grind on the back ?
Has anyone seen my shoe?
Erm, bear with me here. What do you mean by puting a grind on the back ?You grind lines into the rim to make the surface rougher (better grip for the pads) making the brake better. You can see an example here http://82.110.105.16/tartybikes.co.uk/images/wheel800.jpg
diamond dave
Ahh, ok....... still lost hehe. Do i have to knock the dust of the grinder then ?
Ali C
I also reccomend upgrading the pads, theres a whole range of pads to choose from, plazmatic, koxx bloxx, zoo, etc (koxx bloxx in your chosen colour might be safest option)Get your dusty grinder and fit a new disk (I use a thin metal cutting one) then give your rim a few passes so the grooves are vertical (same was as the spokes), the brakes should work really well then in any weather.might be worth buying "dirty tricks and cunning stunts" tutorial video, its features Martyn Ashton and Martin Haywes (look on ebay) and can really help you learn the basics while you laugh at the acting
