PaRtZ
Its highly likely that you've not snapped your forks and have infact snapped the stem clamp bolt instead? In which case you need to remove the starnut by hitting it through the steerer of the fork (as the bolt will be left inside) and replacing the starnut + bolt Check Im right first though before you do that...... A!!
Sounds like the fork star nut has gone meaning you can't tighten the top cap as it is spinning. You can buy spare ones easily, but the hard part is getting the old it out. You should be able to see the splines on the star nut that grip the inside of the fork, i'm not sure of the best way of doing it, but i would say just get a screwdriver and hammer and tap it out of the fork. Lawnmowerman
Take your forks to a bikeshop and ask them to fit you a new star nut. Will only take 2 minutes.
hicks
im sorry but how much did u over tighten that bolt ????
anzo
Depends how old it is and how good/badly it is fitted in the first place. I find it doesn't really take much to loosen them. But anyways, yes, go to hellfrauds or your local bike shop and get a starnut. They're easy to fit yourself with a big hammer...beats paying to have it fitted. Wright Pads
All you done is over tightened you starfangled nut (bolt and nut that compresse the headset and stops it rocking. You may have possibly damiged your headset beraring but this is really on what they are and how much effort you put it.You only need to tigthen it up till your wrist pulls tght thats it....can;t think of the torg figer, 8lbs i thinkGo to LBS with bike and get them to fit a newen or buy one. Halfrods do them in packs of two.Knock out the old oneInsert the bolt with the top cap onWind the bolt so the bolt sit all the way in the star fangled nut but so at the end of it the bolt is flush, Fit stem and stackers on your bikeSlide the nut in and then hit it in with a hammer...nylon or ruber prefered but it a metal hammer used some cloth over the topThis should fit the nut and kinda centralise it up a bit for youCheck that it sits at the right depth, Prktool say 15mm. 10mm is also okayCheck it all is okay and then do up till you wrist pull tigth gently..not like you lifting a carThen go ride
