Help Using Virtualdub

Recommended Posts

Im trying to encode to DivX and I can do, heres what I do:

Make the movie (adobe)

Export to raw AVI file (at 1.24 its about 300mb)

Import it to virtualdub and save as an avi using DivX encoder

File size is about 22 mb :S

Thats at 1000k/bs I don't want to lower that anymore because to me the quality is a bit poo already. Can someone help me get a smaller file with the same quality?

Thanks

EDIT: If I export the movie to a smaller size, when encoded will it come out smaller as well? or does the raw video size not matter?

no, it'll come out the same size (ish, probably even bigger) and much shitter quality. never, ever, ever, compress video twice, ever.

ever.

22mb for 1:24 sounds a lot to me so....

are you compressing the sound? sound is quite big unless you squash it - that may be an issue, i always forget.

is it at full DV resolution ? that'll make a massive difference to the size - even if you only go down from 720x576 to 640x480 you'll probably save a few meg

ensure your encoding to square pixels , compress the audio using mpeg 3 or mpeg 4 also using 640 x 480 of you want but I use 320 x 240 all the time. I dont understand why your playing with the kbps when exporting in adobe using h264 or mpeg 4 under quicktime will do it justice in my opinion.
