BernardDerome
Hey guys, for those who have experience on both bike size, do you pinch flat easier on the mod?I swiched to the small wheels this year after 4 seasons on the stock, and I've had 3 pinch flats so far(rear tire), and it seems that the impacts were not that hard... On the stock I could bash the hell out of my rear wheel with no flats??I used to ride: 26' undrilled dx32 with a maxxis minion 2.5 and a regular xc tube. Now: echo pre drilled 48mm rim with a maxxis creepy crawler 2.5 and a regular tube againMy rim tape is good old duct tape in both setups..Any ideas/suggestion/comments?p.s. I ride both natural and urban.
Wright Pads
What tubeWhat psiYour sure the rtim tape is enough??You get pinch flats on every sized wheel form 10'' to 29'' (use there is a 29'' wheel now and it's bloody hard to get stuff for it)
poopipe
i've managed to pinch the mod at 8 psi (every time) and the bmx at 90-100psi (several times) so clearly tyre pressure makes feckall difference. My creepy crawlers are old now and i've noticed the pinches happen a lot more than they used to, if the tyre's getting worn it 'might' contribute.anyway...The solution to pinching woes is to coat the inside of the tyre with something like climbing chalk - i used scholl foot powder in the abscence of chalk or talc and it's done me fine. It helps the tube to slip along the tyre when it gets pinched so rather than tearing it just moves. I went from pinching ten minutes into every ride to none for three or four rides by doing nothing more than squirting some foot powder into my tyre - definitely worth a try. mods
personal experience... 19" rims never pinch flat as much as 26" lower side walls i guess, but it does depend on the tire pressures also.EDIT: Pinch flats depfinately happen more on old tyres!! BernardDerome
The tube is a regular specialized 20', but I'm tempted to try a danscomp street tube: http://www.danscomp.com/446040.phpI use 18-20 psi generally, and I do feel the rim hit every now and then. I'm wondering if the holes in the echo rim might have something to do with it, since my dx 32 was not drilled?? I will try the chalk powder though, I used to do it but stopped cause I'm lazy
