ok so photoshop is too much effort with a touchpad and my mouse is a load of toss. time to take the plung and purchase one.

taking into account that i have never ever used one ever, i have no idea what to look for, ebay seems to tell me i can pick one up for about £20 which is fine by me. but something tells me they might be bollocks. so any help would be great.

fire away knowledgable ones!

If you're serious - like you do a lot of pencil work and/or painting and you want to go digital there really is no substitute for a wacom intuos, if you're not that serious and you just want to knock up some cartoons or trace some stuff the you'll be fine with the lower end wacoms or the cheap jobbers.

if you want real fun with a wacom, try and find a copy of painter 4 and mess around with that, it had sooo many ways to tie tablet behaviour into the brushes it was unbelievable. later versions didn't have half the knobs and buttons that v4 did so it's v4 ***.

oo, drunker than i thought (Y)

I've had a graphics tablet for a few years now, love it's compatability with Photoshop.

I have a Wacom Graphire, which is probably worth about £40 but dead worth it. Even if you don't want to use it, it's great fun on MSN convos where everyoen is handwriting. :D

I probably would strugle using brush tools on PS with a mouse now...

I'd also recomend a Wacom Intuos tablet. You can get one cheap as chips of ebay. Here's one with a serial socket / Win 98-2000 drivers for £10 p&p inc. Infact, that's the very one I use.

Here

Or get one with a USB connection (good idea), bigger tablet (not needed IMO) and a better pen (grip/comfort)...drivers can be downloaded for any system.

I went `begrudingly` from a mouse to a tablet for using Photoshop / Corel Paint etc, and then for everyday use. Now my mouse collects dust behind my monitor. Those things are a joke! I'd recomend everyone switch to a tablet....if only to save wrist/mouse cramp!

You won't regret it! (Y)

I paid about £150 for a 4 year old intuos (a3). a £25 will be too small to use and wont work for shit.

you get what you pay for.

oh and buy the way, theyre only really useful for digital painting :/

they're also good for paintFX, skin weighting and sculpting in Maya - you won't be able to replace a mouse entirely for 3d work but there's definitely benefits to be had from a tablet
