Oddball Posted July 11, 2006 Report Share Posted July 11, 2006 hey guys, I was out on my bike on Sunday, and I noticed a weird clicking coming from my freewheel/BB area, it feels like it only clicks when I put pressure on (like peddle hopping or wheeling to get on the back wheel...if you get me?) I hope I’m making sense here?If you understand what I’m on about, could you please let me know what it could be, and if it’s bad, and what it is that is clicking.Thanks very much.Anf. I find that if you just tighten up the crank arm bolts, it goes away untill they loosen off again.I never completely stop it though 'cause the bolt is MEGA MEGA tight and I don't wanna strip it...Flipp Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

hicks Posted July 12, 2006 Report Share Posted July 12, 2006 might be the free wheel ! just put a screw driver in the hole in the side closest to the bb and push it forwards as in towards the forks ! if its not that one of ur crank arms might be nackard and hitting ur frame like one of mine does its dodgy and only does it when i turn or kick hard ! new crankas comin soon Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Tommy d Posted July 12, 2006 Report Share Posted July 12, 2006 (edited) I would say: (if you can be bothered, takes a while to do)Take off the cranks and BB, make sure there's no dirt in any of it.Grease all the threads.Grease the area of the BB where the removable cup touches onto main part.Put everything back on, do it up nice and tight In my experience with mine and friends bikes, if that didn't stop it, the frame was cracked and you feel bad because you wasted an hour AND you need a new frame!Hope some of that helps anyway, plus what the other people have saidTom (or Sir Creakalot as I have been known...) Mark W Posted July 12, 2006 Report Share Posted July 12, 2006 I would say: (if you can be bothered, takes a while to do)Take off the cranks and BB, make sure there's no dirt in any of it.Grease all the threads.Grease the area of the BB where the removable cup touches onto main part.Put the BB in tight.Put a lot of grease on the crank tapers.Tighten the cranks on well (if ISIS) but not super tight (taper, 'cos you'll splay the tapers).Wipe away any excess so you don't attract dirt and grit to the interface/taper. Couple of additions.Clicking like that is generally just a tiny amount of play between two dry surfaces. Just work through your crank area lubing as you go, and 9 times out of 10 it'll sort it out.
