i like cunning stunts
hey people this may sound like a completely pointless topic, but, i was thinking the other day what is the first thing, noise memory, smell all that, that reminds you of ridind, or riding related shizzle,my favourite feeling, and thought, and memory is. the halloween ride in brum, with about 40 riders out, caning it through central brum, all going mad .. brakes screeeching, people screaming, it was great, like a bunch of hells of angels comin in... it really makes the hairs stand up on the back of my neck... maybe im talkin complete sh*t and im the only one but there we go......jake ansell......... new bike on saturday.... IOLO
getting on my brothers mongoose XC bike when he first got itand doing a wheely so my front wheel stopped on a wall.and thinking, 'this is for me'after that getting, up my first wall using my bashring.. i remeber the begining of trials to be quite emotional.i quit skating.. was at a loose end.then my cousing tragicly died. (he worked at billys bike shop)i inherited his nearly done trials bike.from the day i finished it to NOW,, iv enjoyed every second !gd topic IMO, if trials means so much to us, why not rember how it started for us !iolo
philking
I will always remember when i first backwheeled sometimg literallt 4 inches high on my bro's trek bruiser. And i remember how pleased i was. That really got me into trials. And then later i remember bumping into Adam Read, Tomm, Mink and Tom Rigg while riding in lancaster and spending the rest of the evening riding with them, it was brilliant! I have definatly not looked back.Every time i hear a door sqeak or somthing that could possibly be a brake i turn round to see what it is! I'm that obsessed! Ha Ha! its brilliant.Good topic
chrishayton
i remember the first time i back hopped ( forward) i was so happy, I had been trying for ages and when finally getting it, it was there and i never lost it.one of my best memorys and ill prob get slated by the inch counters is tapping over 50inch, that was a nice feeling as i used to think it was only in the reach of top riders yet i managed to do it. bumping into ali c in hebden one time was great. i had only just got properly into trials and me and my mate met ali on his battered echo pure with rusty pashley forks when we were getting off the train to go ride and he walked over introduced himself ( i was clueless at the time no offence al) and then went and performed some of the most amazing things i had ever seen done on a bike. he still impresses me greatly everytime i go ride with him. and koxx days, i cant leave that out. me and iolo all the way down to france singing and doing stupid impressions ( pirate/somerset voice) and then getting lost in paris with riots and fires around us. was great. Haha that was ace Last weekend in brum we had 20 riders storming down crowded footpaths playing tunes with the squeaky brakes, was very funny. I like the sound of loads of freewheels clicking together on big rides, its amazing...

Davey
Ah man I LOVE these memory lane threads, they're great!Ok, erm first bike memory is riding a big wheel (those tricycle things) into a bush outside my house when I was about 4, and I was well chuffed when I got my first bike with air filled tyres, haha, oh the comfort!First trials memory is backwheeling kirbs and thinking I was the muts nuts, then everything was about how many bricks you could backwheel, 4 bricks was like this massive achievement, haha!Oh and while on the memory lane trip, who else remembers wanting one of those chain tensioners that attach to your chain stay, and all becasue Martyn Ashton had one........ but they were rubbish!Davey
Tom Booth
Best memories....Looping out on my mates T-Pro and giving myself concusion (I can't remeber much of it, I can remember sitting on a rock with a bleeding head asking where we where)The first time I tryed to start my Mini up, first turn aswell, had been stood for 2 years and it fired like a dream. My first gap, 4.5 foot. Bricking myself :$ Nailed it
anzo
Memories for me include Danny Foster riding a T-Mag ('Pearl White') and being amazed that he could ride on a bench/wall. And then when he got his Monty(s) and Cleanbike sponsership.Ahh, back in the days when he had trouble backwheeling to a grit box...now look at him. But yea, nailing the basics is a lovely feeling too
sammerz
The best thing for me, was watching my old trials videos over and comparing them to my new one and realizing how much effort i actually put in. Before i rode because my mates did, now there is only like 3 of us left in our town and now i ride because it is constantly pushing me to achieve new targets. Trials does'nt just make you improve in skill level but also gives you confidence in other aspects! >>Sam<<

Brian Bleech
first thought: that looks cool - why can't i bunnyhopbest memory:learning to bunnyhop and then deciding it would be a good idea to bunnyhop a 6" girder (i could only hop only an inch or two) and crashed and burned and still have the scar to prove it.me and tim getting lost on the way to addingham, when we walked from the station took us ages and then had an awesome ride GBYB 05best moment: trying to do a section fakie at the fun comp at the beginning of the year ...didn't work. sidehop gap to smiththem moments where you are just at work/school/pub/whatever and you all off a sudden think of a line and you can't wait to get out and try it... CurtisRider
cant really remember why i got into biking originally, but for trials, it was going to nass, and seeing who think was matt berridge on the mad setup, did this crazy line and i just couldnt believe it, soon got a set of rigid forks on my jump bike and had a go
Greetings
A ride 4 years ago with my mate. We rode for 9 hours non stop, doing stuff which we thought was crazy. Still have a video of it, going to watch it now Never had a best moment, it's all to do with me thinking I ride like shit. So every time I manage something I think "yeah, cool, but I should have done that a year ago".
MrSuave
reminisce, ahhhhhhh............ i remember hopping along a bench with front wheel on the seat and back wheel on the floor at the end of my road because my friend could backhop with SPD's on and learning all the basic's in the park near my house. Degreasing my rims with pedros orange peel citrus degreaser - oh the smell , running deore cantelivers with blue and red kool stops, 2.1 onza tyres, getting a ging thing for xmas, the first v brakes coming out and getting a DX red one. wow.....learning to backhop on a 17" XC bike with suspension, 3 chainrings and flat purple anodised tranz x bars.and spending all summer hol's riding with friends until your hands hurt...Big memory was riding at the bike show in the first search for trials star final, being on blue peter ,getting my M.A.D contract and just me and hawzee riding at NASS before it opened to the public, they all mean so much to me.good thread, makes you dream Edited July 17, 2006 by MrSuave
