Hurman
If Carlsberg did slippy trials sections they would probably set them out in Oakworth quarry where Sunday's Tyke trial was held. Some of the Elite sections had been set out to be exceptionally difficult to give the guys who were going to the Singapore and Japan rounds of the world championships a bit of a warm up session but the mixture of drizzle and untouched rock made the sections even more challenging. I was only walking around and letting my kids fall off in the sections and I had a couple of dabs and one 5 :$ The best thing about this venue is how compact it is and gives everyone an opportunity to watch all levels tackle most sections. I don't know how other competitors felt but I had a great day (although I wasn't riding ) but the atmosphere felt very good, even during the presentations when the wind was trying to send us all into orbit there was a good vibe. It's great to see such a healthy trials scene even in the most difficult conditions - apparently it was glorious sunshine on the Saturday when the setting up crew were up there !! Thanks to all the observers who could be identified by the angle they were leaning into the wind and their drizzle soaked clothes. They make such a difference to the way the beginners ride and are all so enthusiastic and positive towards them. Another excellent Tyke trial set out in gods own country. Ali C
I cant believe it!! I actually retired...I have only done that once before in 7 years, that was due to my stem breaking. This time however things wernt going my way and I got pretty fed up.I set off at 9, its about a 25min journey for me, but after 2 hours of trying to find the venue I gave up and went home! My mum said she would come and help out at the comp and navigate there, but we got lost again but eventually found it (were there any tyke signs on the road??)after a late start, I started the sections badly, 4 5s in a row!!, my balance was all over the place. Then it started raining more, then it got windy and then to top it off I fell off the easiest bit of a section ever into a bunch of really strong nettles, I stung all my arms and it still hurts now I then went and waited in the rain for the next section for 15 mins only to 5 the first rock, I then saw there was at least a 20 rider que at the next section, I was really fed up and I had had enough, so off I went.well done to everyone who stayed with it and thanks to everyone for putting the event on, it must be a bit demeaning to see people retire, but it wasnt because the comp was bad, just because I had an off day.cant wait for the next one
joe b
Personally, i thought it was an OK competition, save a few things. Such as the weather and stupidly limited amount of tape causing sections to be confusing and therefore made some people lose time trying to navigate themselves around. TykeTrial can definately do better, though . I rode alright, to say how depressed the weather was making me feel!Cheers,Joe.
planet-x-boy
I thought the sections were set out pretty well. I did expert and found that it is better when the secvtions are harder. It is shit when the sections are easy and you get a handful of riders getting single figures so i thought these sections were set out perfect.I didnt ride very well through the day. Started off with only losing 3 dabs in the first 4 sections then got about 4 5's in a row. I was debating wether to retire or not thinking that i was goign to come near the bottom but it ended up that everyone was in the same boat as me. I ended up coming 2nd although i should have done alot better. I suppose it has tought me a lesson not to give up.Overall the trial was a good laugh as usual and thankyou very much to everyone who made it happen.Brett.... Waynio
Too many fair weather riders!!!!i even said at a que in section 4 with a few mums and dads stood there."too many lads complain too easy, if you had of gone back a couple of years, no winging of whining, people got on with it and tackled what was in front of them"too many young lads are keen to ride street and as the "easy" option then comapre it to a competition. im sorry but i feel as though giving up MY time for people to winge is very dissapointing. the best thing about sunday, the younger lads for me, they have so much more fun and enjoy themselves more, and its purely cos they dont come on here and winge and whine about things!!!!! or argue about whose bike is the lightest or "jimmy" has got a lighter bike than me thats why he is better than me.i marked out 4 of the 7 sections marking the majority of the elite and expert out, i marked them out as they were as i wanted people to loose dabs, i thought ben savage would have been riding and it would have been good for me to see if/what he lost on the sections, i for one like Ali had a poor start to the day, BUT it didnt get me down, i rose above it and did my best, i go to singapore and japan in 4/5weeks, if it rains shall i ask them to post pone the event????yes it was windy and yes it was rainy,i will admit the sections were set for a "dry" ish trial, specially section 6 n 7, which were on the more slate rock, so it was really slippy and 7 would have been VERY dangerous if it hadnt of been "modified"Barbara did a great job as usual as well as the other people that helped me mark out friday and the others who marked the rest of the section out on saturday, a big thanks to all the observers, its much appreciated. a very big thanks to those who enjoyed it and to the younger lads that kept a smile on their face all day.to the older lads who can do as they want or please, one sentence for you all "enjoy what you have got, and respect what is put on for you!!!" one day you may not have the luxuries of competitions. trials might go down hill and people get fed up of people complaining and winging.Waynio...............................Brett, your example is PERFECT!!!! "I didnt ride very well through the day. Started off with only losing 3 dabs in the first 4 sections then got about 4 5's in a row. Ali C
I am allowed to get fed up in at least one comp in 7 years I think its all in the head though, if I had been in the right mindset I would have carried on, but I wasnt having fun and I was risking hurting myself or the bike. I still think retireing was the best thing for me to do.

Waynio
it wasnt a go/dig @ you al, just from what i heard while riding around sunday.there just needs to be that much more "enthusiasm" from some riders. the younger lads are fine, they have got more enthusiasm than most of the people turning up.trials are supposed to be fun and your supposed to enjoy yourself, how can you enjoy yourself if people are moaning and whining at things????its the same for everyone. everyone in each class has to ride the same things they will just use different ways of getting through the sections. just a bit more tohught and appreciation wouldnt go a miss!!!! especially for barbara, i dont really care, if people dont respect what i do, at end of the day i could mark sections out all day that suit me, but i dont, i put things in that i cant do, that are going to push my boundaries. it makes for an interesting trial.i just feel for the amount of effort that goes into a competition, for people not to appreciate it is hard to swallow. probably a bit like that competition back in february, where loads of people signed upto it, etc etc and no one ended up turning up. make and appreciate what WE/you all have.Waynio.......................... Hurman
From a non competitors point of view it was clear Sunday was a difficult day. The weather was poor the sections were hard and got harder as the day went on and there were 21 sections in total (3 rounds of 7) all of which were energy sapping. I had trouble getting my youngest to complete all the sections especially when he fell off and hurt himself with 5 sections to go (I think everyone heard him!! )BUT - they stuck at it and got round, so did a lot of other riders and they were the real winners on the day. I feel it is more important to finish an event than to get a good placing. Getting both is ideal but if you are going to turn up you may as well make the most of it. Obviously mechanical failure is fairly terminal but giving up can be avoided.Anyone who stayed until the end and saw the messing around at the prize giving and the young lads helping the organisers sort out the flags and pack them away would have seen the side of Sunday's event which inspired me to start this topic. It is surprising how much more you get out of your riding if you really get involved with a club because not only do you turn up to an event you turn up to an event you helped get sorted even if it is helping pack up at the end it all goes to help the day run smoothly. If you don't like the way something is done get involved and be heard. Wayne might think he is setting out hard sections to challlenge himself but you might think they are a bit tame so have a word and see what is involved and get involved. Nothing can be done about the weather, we live on an island, but getting the most out of your trials is in your hands. P.S One of the observers sacrificed his entry so the trial could run. Would you do that?

Hurman
JohnSounds like handbags at dawn to me!! Or is it bunny hops at dusk??!! I am up for a practice session sometime next week just let me know when you are available. The doc has told me to stop whining and to get out there and ride but take it easy, whatever that means? Well done to Robbie, he must have been pleased with himself. I think he would have been mightly disappointed had he rode the beginners sections, he would have been forever looking at the white route and thinking 'what if..' Wait until the dads start riding the trials then the lads will get a shock! Retiring is something you do when no one wants to employ you anymore not something you do on a Sunday afternoon when the misses has stamped your pass and freedom is yours (for a short while at least )I hope the fun trial runs as I am itching to get back on my bike and depress myself at just how unfit, weak and crap at balancing I am "TRIALS" It does exactly what it says on the tin !!!!!Little Robbie wanted to drop a class.
